The exhaust clamp from the CAT to the silencer has broken; it’s the one with the heat shield attached onto it (GSA) its £90 to replace!!

I was thinking of just replacing it with a stainless steel clamp and trying to spot weld the shield onto that?

The bike is not with me at the moment so a cant measure the size of the clamp required.

Could anyone tell me what size clamp would do the job?

Thanks.

The OEM parts catalogue lists them as being 45 mm diameter.

The diameter of the wide flange is about 48 mm so I guess a 45mm diameter clamp would do the job.

1150 GS and GSA both the same... If you want a standard sized clamp ( the one I used to supply with my stubby's ) to have a go with pm me your address and I'll bung one in the post :thumb

They are stamped 47-51mm

I'm trying to figure out how to loosen this clamp WITHOUT breaking it. I'm trying to replace the shock and with the clamp in place I don't have enough room to get a socket with the allen bit into the lower shock bracket. I've gotten the nut and washer off the bolt but the moulded washer seems pretty petrified in place (I can't tell if this was a rubbery material at some point?). I've put a chisel on the bottom of the clamp and hammered down with no luck. Any ideas?

I had the same problem a while ago and the way I did it was to soak the washer/ bolt in penetrating oil and then use a combination of a chisel, hammer and a rubber mallet in order to 'persuade' it to move. From my limited experience, you'd really have to go fairly banzai with it to break it unless very corroded. Basically keep at it and it will eventually move.

Yeah, the washer and bolt came off after some penetrating oil but I can't get the clamp to spread. I'm still soaking it and will go after it some more tomorrow. Thanks.

If you can't release the heat shield, cut off the clamp that holds it to the pipe and silencer. Use a stainless clap from Motorworks to cone to the pipe and silencer. Fit the heat shield back using a stainless jubilee clip. It will fit behind the clamp fixings on the heat shield. Halfords have a stainless jubilee clamp that is big enough and can be cut down.
I did this on mine and saved the cost of buying new BMW parts.
