Hello
Any help welcome,
When i turn on the ignition on the bike does its checks but the servo for the exhaust flap keeps clicking. The only way to stop it is turning ignition off and on ,this usually sorts it.Was thinking valve stuck in exhaust. How can i fix this. Can this be disconnected as i read its only for noise reduction or does it also help with back pressure.???

Cheers for any info

I have the same issue now and again (it doesn't keep clicking every time I start the bike) with my 2010 TC. I'd like to hear if it is normal too. A job on my list of things to do to the bike is to remove the exhaust and if check the flappy-valve is going through it's correct motions but I believe you need a GS911 for that (another item on the list).
From what I've read on here, and I'm sure more learned people will be along to give their experience, you can remove it without issue.

My exhaust flap was stuck, although I didn't realise until I put a GS911 on and saw the fault code. I thought the repeated whirring of the servo motor was normal :nenau

The fix is easy: remove silencer nut at the top bracket, disconnect servo motor, remove flappy valve (this will be the hardest bit as the clamps will be rusty - go out and spray some releasing oil on now and twice a day until you remove). Get a replacement tube from Nippy Normans (£30) or probably a lot less from an exhaust place/metal seller. Fit all the exhaust bits back together. Also remove the cables from the serve motor but leave the motor itself in place.

There's a wiki type thing somewhere on the forum with a much better description of how to do it, dimensions of the tube, etc.

good luck

and the bike sounds much better with it removed.

I have a 2012 1200GSA and removed the valve, cable and control box assembly. Dis connect the plug and wrap it in tape. No errors shown on the dash. The GS911 shows only one fault. Bike runs exactly the same as if it was fitted. I and the wife can't tell any difference in the running or noise from the bike.

Fit a piece of Stainless tube dia63.5mm x 70mm long. Probably 5quid of tube.

Is the Thing is a POS to pass emissions or noise test?

The valve and weak mixture at 4500 revs are to pass the EU noise tests.
Disconnecting the valve and motor will show no dash errors. 911 will see one fault logged.
Aftermarket full systems from older 1200s will fit the twin cam.
