Exhaust for the 1300s?

What method did you use to remove the baffle from the twin pipe? I tried grinding out with a dremmel but it just kept blunting the carbide tips. Maybe should have used some lubricant! Also note that BMW suggest the exhaust clamp is single use and must be replaced, WTF!

I decided to drill out the spot welds and take it out the clean way so it can be reversed. I then welded the spots without it.

I could drill and tap and but it back on with a bolt.

I don't think it's worth the hassle anyways. Very disappointed that a name like akra would release an exhaust like that.

Not at all.
Many people have said it’s not the nicest sounding engine .I thought so too when I tried one.
Good luck in getting a good sounding exhaust but I’m pretty sure the sound of the exhaust is linked to the sound the engine makes ….
Um well no actually. the mechanical sound the engine makes is completely disconnected from the sound any exhaust will make. They have 100% nothing to do with each other

Most of the silencing on the 1300gs is done in the box underneath the engine so unless you change the complete exhaust and pipes you won't notice a big difference in the sound.

Yes, removing the cat would definitely make a difference, I agree. But I don't agree that the can wont make a lot of difference because they do. I haven't had a single bike with the cat removed and I've been more than happy with the sound... I'm not looking for straight pipe wake up your whole neighbourhood loud.

Also, removing the cat means tunning the bike and that's a whole another can of worms that I certainly have no interest in.

There a are more baffles in the box underneath on the 1300 than on previous models, it's not just the cat. That's why even fitting an Akro exhaust doesn't (can't) make a big difference in volume. Think even the standard can on the 1300 is more or less straight through. You can see straight down the standard exhaust and it's a perforated pipe with I presume wadding around it. There are no baffles.

It's definitely not. The OEM fitted twin pipe Akra is totally muted due to EU regulations, it has a lot of muffling on it, you're only paying for the looks and build quality, it's really a beautiful can. Even aftermarket akras sound a lot better...

Explain to me how the Jekyll and Hyde sounds so savage without removing the box?

I have the aftermarket Akrapovic on mine. I had it first on my R1300GS then moved it to the GSA.
I find it louder than the stock can, and also louder than the BMW branded Akrapovic with the double barrel.

Perfect fit, construction and finish as you can expect, and it's designed to not interfere with the Vario cases on the GS or the aluminium boxes on the GSA. Something the cheaper exhaust manufacturers don't care about.

Might be what you're looking for, in conjunction with the flapper valve disabling device...

I had a Termignoni on my R1300 GS and it was directing exhaust gases straight on the Vario case, so had to sell it.

Hey bud, thanks for that.... I've seen a few lads being a little dissapointed with the akras, even aftermarket so it's a little risky for me. It might do it, but at that premium I think I want to give another brand a shot....

Totally agree on what you're saying about the consideration for the luggage and there are some that do specify that they're compatible with the cases, so definitely something for me to watch out for.

How was the sound of the Termignoni? Those are usually pretty lively

Maybe the J&h is a straight through exhaust without ANY wadding ??, when it's set on the highest noise level setting.
If you could get the wadding out of the standard pipe you might get it louder.

The Termignoni was louder than both of the Akrapovic options, it's well made, etc. They do say that it's compatible with side cases, but clearly it isn't!

I've seen many exhaust manufacturers claim that their products are compatible with side cases, clearly to increase their chances of selling their products, but in many occasions they don't test this scenario at all. Many small exhaust companies design exhausts on bikes lent to them by bike owners or local dealerships in exchange of a small discount. If the bike owner or dealer supplies the side cases then the exhaust manufacturer might accommodate them in their design. If the bike doesn't come with the panniers, then that's it really!

I think out of all manufacturers, Akrapovic are the only one going above and beyond in their development, testing and manufacturing stages. You can be assured that their claims are actually true.

I sound like a sales rep for them, but having had 30+ bikes with numerous exhaust options tested on them, in my opinion nothing comes close to Akrapovic and I always stick with them.

No, I absolutely understand what you're saying and I agree, quality and details they can't be faulted. I think they're just being knocked by sticking to regulations unfortunately.

I imagined the Termignoni was louder, they're known for that. Sucks the false advertisement on the fitment, that'll keep me away from that. On my 1200, I had the Leo Vince and fitted with the bikes no problem whatsoever. So I'd be confident they work OK.

As stated above, most of the silencing is done in the collectors.
To test this, I ran mine for a weekend without the silencer on, and the bike was not much louder.
So I kept the standard silencer and replaced the collectors with an Arrow stainless steel item. Sounded great when out and about, but a touch noisy at fast idle after a cold start. Replaced this with the overpriced Akrapovic collectors which was about right.
One day, when I can be arsed I’ll put the Arrow collectors up for sale on here!

I disconnected the flappy valve with this on and found it a bit loud so reconnected them but still a deeper sound than the original. Just right. For me that is.

Hi, question on the hpcorse SPS RALLY 270 TITANIUM fitted - is there any additional heat given off with this? as I currently use the Lonerider Motobags and didn't want an issue if that was the case. Thanks Andy

I don't know but i would assume not as it is a free'er flowing pipe so would there is less of a heat build up.

I fitted an Arrow end can and a healtech valve eliminater and it sounds much better and other riders have mentioned that its an improvement.

I agree that the healtech makes more of a difference than an end can. I got an SP Connect end can and am happy with that in conjuction with a switched valve

Try disconnecting the flappy valve cables. It's free and sounds better.
What do you do about the engine warning light then? Or does the 1300 not throw a light if the flappy no worky like the 1250 did?
