Exhaust header operating temp?

He rides a 1150GS

Nobody makes aftermarket headers for the R1150GS, so your only choice is original BMW

New ones are £400 for a pair

Gs point, Akrapovic indeed do not. However, I vivdly recall a thread here from Bilco trying and helping Keihan to develop some. Not sure where that went, but I can find it. Its from a couple of years ago.

Also I have seen a couple of bikes on the road with non standard ones, one belonged to my old neighbour. They (the headers) looked very trick - titanum possibly - and they were on an 04 GSA with a Remus end pipe. I ale=ways though they were Remus, but i can't se anything on their website, so perhaps you are right.

I am.................I did exhaustive research and drew a blank on 1150GS's - oh there is one I think Laser do 1150GS Headers, but they run under the sump and necessitate the removal of sumpguard and centrestand permanently to allow fitment:blast

The Keihan ones are for a 12GS

Plenty of aftermarket for 11GS and 12GS

Keihan do a Stainless de catted Y piece for 1150's. Beautifully hand crafted by proper engineers and we have them is stock:augie

The Y piece does not include the header section of the exhaust system and I don't know anyone who does for an 1150:nenau

The polishing man at the factory using a cutting compound which brings old stainless pipes up like new. Not sure what it is but it does the job:thumb

Johnny:
Sorry, I didn't spot the fact that you did mention the vendor - I'll drop them a note today and see what they have to say - the ceramic coating is my preferred option - but like you, I baulk at paying so much, which is why I was looking at paint.

BTW: I've had a fender extender fitted from new, but it doesn't protect the headers from the general salty motorway spray and other detritus that gets splashed about in all weather riding. In fact, it hasn't even really helped protect the alternator cover - I removed, wire brushed and repainted it earlier this year. I wish I had got it shot blasted and powder coated it instead now. It's already starting to look a bit tatty.

Cheers.

I filled in the contact form on the website at lunch time for CamCoat and they just responded:

Thank you for your enquiry.
Cost to coat your headers internally with TLHB and externally with Grey Ice ceramic is £110 + VAT with a 3 week turnaround.

So, they're going to get the job then! I'm trying to negotiate a slightly shorter turnaround than three weeks, but I suspect that is the pessimistic view and they will actually get it done more quickly.

Cheers JohnnyBoxer!

Kind regards,
Fin.
