I have a 2004 f650gs and tonight within 60 seconds of start up the exhaust header pipe is running red hot. I only realised this as I was checking the front tyre and caught my arm on the pipe.

Is it normal for it to be running so got so soon??

Not sure timewise but the sleeve of my hein gerick jacket burnt through very quickly, expensive inspection.

From google searches a few say its normal, a few say fuel injection needs a reset and others say its the oxygen sensor.

It's in for a service in a few weeks so will get them to have a look.

Thanks.

Pretty normal from my experience but no harm in asking it to be checked when its serviced. I've burnt my hand on the exhaust a very short time after starting it.

Are you sure it was red, if so seems high. If you mean it was just bl**dy hot but not glowing then I would say normal. Nearly grabbed mine when I meant to grab the water hose, lucky I realised in time but it does get very hot quickly.

Sorry Greg, it's not glowing, it's just bloody hot after only running for 1 min.

I have read stories of some glowing red after start up but mine wasn't.
