Exhaust headers - chromed or stainless?

Does anyone know if the headers on a '00 GS are chromed or plain stainless? I'm looking to clean mine up as the lower parts of them would benefit with some attention.

Thanks for that. It does explain a little of the odd way they have aged. I was just giving them a closer look and feel sure they're chromed but unsure why I'm not seeing more corrosion underneath

At least I know how to tackle them now!

So how you gonna tackle them ? Wire wool / WD40 or polish ?

I think I'll just polish off the chrome. will need some care but I don't anticipate (famous last words ) any real problems with that.

ps. wire wool wouldn't touch the chrome. needs mechanical removal I.e. polishing motors and abrasive polish
