Exhaust Headers

Evenings a bit long in Craigellachie?
I recommend Extreme Crocheting rather than header painting, be more to show for it....

I did it once on an old exhaust which got scratched a few years ago. The trouble with stainless steel is trying to get a good key to paint on. Also I used halfords "very high temp" paint, it melted in no time

Hi Bin

When you don't have a garage and you are polishing the b**dy things in temperatures of -4c you get a bit fed up. Also the ammount of Grit used up here seems to combine with the heat of the headers to make total discolouration in a 30 mile trip

Dr Rich

I don't suppose its changed much. I have been in the Craig for 25 years and it hasen't changed either. You will be well aware of the Winters.

I don't think you'd get anything to work on S/S headers :nenau

Ceramic coating would be what you want.

If you want to have a go with paint, I have found this stuff to be far better than anything else out there (top tip - bake it on in your oven before subjecting it to high temps).

Ah yes, I meant ceramic. Colin, I keep meaning to come back for a visit.

Colin,
Know what you mean, the SS pipes look pretty grubby, but my own opinion is let them be grubby, they won't rust or do any harm.
The grit etc. may deteriorate any coating you use, maybe try a wee patch first.

Hey Cloin, if it's just a cleaning fetish that you have and you want to keep them shiny, try some Wonder Wheels on them followed by fine wire wool - works a treat :thumb2

Can help here... being OCD about cleaning the bike.. mix Wonder wheels and Autosol into a thickish paste, you will need to put on some protective gloves (heavy rubber gardening gloves)-(goggles as well really) then paint the paste onto the headers, leave for an hour or so, then polish the paste off using heavy rag, you need to work at it a bit..but it brings them up real nice.

if you paint them, it will chip and look terrible in a real short time..hope that helps.

Thanks Guy's, Like the Wonder Wheels with rubber gloves, I don't have any but the wife has!!!!!!!!!!. Will take the advice and won't paint. Thanks for all the input

Colin
