I just can't shift these marks on the exhaust. I have just tried Optiglanz too and no luck. Any ideas from those that have experience of this or anyone in the detailing trade?

Thanks

Try Autosol and apply with one of those green plasticky pan scrubbers.:D

So far I've steered clear of anything with an abrasive surface, i.e pan scrubbers. Methinks that might make things worse?

Give it enough stick and they'll go blue :thumb2

Assuming I want blue. But I quite like the silver. Someone must ride a Harley in this Parish. There's more stainless on those than Wiggins's trophy cabinet.

I wouldn't bother. You may get the marks off, but as soon as you ride it again, they'll be back.

Aye don't bother rev it hard and push plenty of posh petrol through it and go for the old Triumph blue gold colour

Right...Raceglaze and or Shiny sinks it is then. Watch this space.

Thanks folks

Nope Harley Headers tend to discolour too, but on the tourers at least the headers are surrounded by a Chromed heat shielding which doesn't discolour.

I thought the headers were chrome not steel. This would explain why Optiglanz wouldn't shift it. Getting rid of the discolouration requires some serious effort but can be done. You will need a drill with a hard and soft buff with the medium (red) and final (blue) polishes. You can get this kit for about £20 from Halfords. Don't use the hard sizel attachment on chro,e though....it will just scratch it.

I know this works as i polished up my TC last weekend.

The best thing to get rid of those marks (and you'd never have to worry about them again), would be a set of stainless steel Akrapovic headers.;)

I'm sure I read somewhere they are stainless? Anyone?

Ok with a little research 'autosol' seems to be the stuff I need for tarnished chrome. Halfords sells that.

Get an old T shirt, and cut it into long strips. Cover the headers in Autosol, then wrap the T shirt round, then grab each end of the T shirt strips and pull each end (not at the same time!).

...but make sure there are no bits of grit trapped under the cloth or it will scratch it to hell.:augie damhik
