I have an 2002 Adventure which looks as if its been dipped in the sea,
the previous owner used it rear round , but wasnt able to do much cleaning.
The front pipes are in a state, i think they might be stainless, I am a very sad man, i want to restore these to their former glory by beadblasting and
polishing back, has anyone have any advice ( apart from dont do it !)

I have seen a few post where someone painted theirs with a ceramic coating

Thanks

I have sand papered them and then finished with rubbing compound. They look good now

I might be talking out of my a*se here (I am sure someone will soon confirm it:D ) but I think they are chrome plated. The small cover thingy over the silencer joint certainly is chromed stainless steel as I have had mine repaired and they took the chrome off to enable them to weld it. Try wire wool or fine Scotchbrite to get the worst off.

The reason i though the pipes may be stainless and not chromed as a magnet wont stick to them ( most grades of stainless are not magnetic )
can anyone confirm ?

thanks :beerjug:

They could be chromed stainless steel so the magnet test will not work - mine are on my GS. The colour up by the exhaust ports should give you an idea - blued if plated and brown and grotty if plain stainless.

Mine are grotty brown all the way , so guess they re stainless.
I did clean up the 'hot' side of the CAT by sanding off the crud and polishing it back with a polishing kit from http://www.thepolishingshop.co.uk/
it now looks like new , i am hopefull it will work on the exhaust pipes
