Bought a secondhand Remus and I am trying to get the origional exhaust off. It has never been removed so is being a bollox and not wanting to be evicted:mad:.

I have taken all the fixing botls and clamps off, but it is still stuck tight to the header pipes. Anyone got a tip ( without using a grinder:eek: ) in easing the two pipes apart.

It is a 1999 1100 GS

I've only ever done this the other way round (removed the headers, leaving the can in place). The first time it was a right sod (it's a '94 and I don't think it had ever been separated).

I squirted lots of plusgas into the joint and got a wooden drift onto the edge of the can at the joint. Some abuse with a lump hammer moved it slightly and I slowly worked it off with more hammering / drifting.

Good luck!

As per previous post I would use lots of WD40 etc over a ouple of days to allow it to soak in. Give the joints a wiggle before each spray to try and crack the joins. Then a bit of force to break apart.

And try to twist it:)

heat joint with a blow torch - when cooling down a bit add wd40 - heat again and wiggle - no wd40 when v hot as it can burn ! + smack with a rubber mallet or via a lump of wood + twist & wiggle ! good luck

get hold of the very end of the silencer and yank it up and down and around and around and side to side.

Put all your weight on it, no need to be gentle.

I have to admit that it had me in the corner more than a couple of times, but I kept slogging. Fecken heck it was worth it to hear the note from the replacement exhaust :D

Thanks for all the advice, it gave me the drive to push on!!! Now where is Mike Tyson the pussy :augie
