Hello all, I'm a bit new to all of this so be patient with me.
After years of trying to melt the tarmac in Dorset on an RSVR I've decided that I quite like life and now own a R1200GS Adv. (best move I ever made)

Now I've had a few months on the beast I'm looking to improve the performance and sound a little.
Any ideas or recomendations?

After all, you lot have been GS'ing a lot longer than me.
Thanks in advance. :thumb

Try running a search for loads of info. on various systems but, IMVHO, you can't do much worse than a full BOS system.

Better fueling across the range and a much nicer tone (legal) and with the db killer removed feckin' loud and a bit more top end :thumb

I have Remus headers, 'Y', and Genesis can and am happy with the increased performance and sound (don't like the melting numberplate though!).

Mind you, I don't have any noise regs. to deal with here (fitted by BMW main dealer!).

Akraprovic if you want to show off and make noise :thumb

Renus if you just want to make noise :D

Whatever can you go for, it could be worth bearing in mind that some of the slim cans allow the fitting of symetrical panniers with the attendant increase in luggage capacity.

I'm sure that MetalMule and Touratech do matched pairs with no exhaust cut-outs in the LH pannier as long as the can is "slimline" :thumb

I wouldn't go for an end can without this facility :thumb

Yet another RSVR rider joins the collective. I did the same in February and have never looked back (even though the mirrors are better :D )

Personally I'd suggest ditching the stock headers and cat for a set of Remus headers to start with and keep the stock can and see what you think, paticularly as your requirements are to improve performance and sound a little. Larger diameter headers without the cat sharpen the throttle response and give the standard can a bit of a snort without being offensive.

The choice of end cans really comes down to personal choice, I tried a few (Laser, Remus and Two Bros) but ended up going back to the stock for various reasons (Laser gave an annoying whistle with the baffle fitted, Remus got on my nerves with it's droning note when cruising, Two Bros was way too loud for my regular pillion) before finding my personal preference with the BMW Akra which ticks all the boxes although new it's pretty pricey!

I'd agree with that Blackal. I got a Metal Mule stainless slimline can and rear pannier rack. So now can fit equal sized panniers (38l)and still be symetrical about the centre line. (no odd cut outs either). Exhaust note is better.
Next thing I'm after is new Y piece.

THANKS

Thanks for all your suggestions, :thumb

The bike was supplied with the BMW panniers so this might shorten the list a little.
I had a TL1000R with a full Remus system that didn't sound to loud but gave a good midrange boost. :)
Might start with thunders option and change the headers first.

Thunder, noticed the ohlins ( :bow ) on the rear. Does it make a big difference in the handling and does it increase the ride height?

Thanks

The answers no on both questions, The Laser came as part of the deal on the bike and the rest I found here or on Ebay. :thumb

And he'll be looking another one next week

Have Ohlins front and rear on the bike, I find they make a big difference to the areas of handling and comfort, much smoother than stock especially when fully loaded and two up. :thumb

They do increase the ride height but not by much. Ohlins offer two versions for the GS one which will lower the ride height if required.

That's fecking horrible....

remus headers with akrapovic can is a great compromise best can with good headers ,not to sure about the tri can !!! and how can a absorbsion can it not need re packing ? every absorbsion can needs repacking bar none !!! only fixed chamber type cans can be fit and forget . and a carbon can will not stand heat from a baffled can no way not for long especially on a twin .
