I'm looking for an exhaust with nicer sound than stock.

I certainly won't be spending £500+ on new or second-hand Akras (happy to spend less) so looking at cheaper options

Leo Vince (had them on bikes in years past), GRmoto (not seem them before, but they seem to be pretty cheap and look nice) - might get a second-hand Remus fo runder £500...

Any other experience folks care to share?

I hear what you are saying about the Akrapovic, but the simple fact is they are the best for a GS / GSA and if you kept in good condition, you could sell it back on again for 3/4 of the price you paid.

Whatever you decide, check the link pipe and make sure it's a full bore link pipe, there are a lot of generic silencers out there, were the manufacturer will make a link pipe that is sleeved down to match the diameter of the off the shelf can.

I have an Akrapovic on my current GSA, on my previous 1200 I had a HP Corse which was very well made but still in the mid £300's. You can modify the standard can with a hole cutter on the inlet side if you just want a little more noise, there's a guide on the forum to doing that.

Nicer is subjective.

Have a look and listen to reviews yourself and what you think is nice.

Other ears hear different things.

I have a year old R1250RS. Same headers as the GS, but the end pipe might be different. I change the can on all of my bikes as soon as I buy a new bike.
I went for a can from a company called Dominator, website www.dominator.pl. it turned out that the stainless oval that I wanted was less than £200 new. It saved about 5kgs in weight over stock and looks perfect after a year and 6000 miles.
It does make a different sound with the baffle in, but I have not removed the baffle yet. I believe that most of the silencing on the R1250 range is done in the cat under the engine.
Now considering a set of decat headers.

Yep thanks.. I've been buying bikes and fitting exhausts for over 20 years so I know that :)

In this context, I'm after a little louder and deeper, but frankly I'll see what folks have experience of first then search out Youtube vids... not that they're true to life anyway.

20 years and you want something cheap that is epic?

Obviously 20 years of valuable learning

Never once mentioned 'cheap but epic' I said under £500 and that I'm after a nicer sound... which 20 years of experience has told me there's plenty of out there.

No idea where the attitude is coming from or why, but if you've nothing to contribute move on.

Stump up for an Akra or Remus is my view.

Although that in itself tells you nothing, as there are different models with different sounds

Right. Thanks. not what I was asking.

Looking for folks with 'experience' of sub-£500 options on a comparable GSA... not whether I should 'stump up'

Please, find another thread to join eh?

Sub 500 is probably with second hand.
