Exped Mats - why do they fail?

Exped down mats = very good sleeping mats ,,,, but the “ durability “ just ain’t there .
I am on my 3rd one now ( that I had to find in Holland ! as mine failed just a couple of days into last summers trip , I was lucky that it failed in Holland and not in the North of Norway , as availably and price would have been an issue )
My old thermarest is still functional and I always carry it with me for a spare .
Depending on the result of a med test in March ,I will be buying a new tent and a new mat ,,,, and it WONT be an exped ! - it will be something from the thermarest range .

Agreed
Durable-thermarest are better
Shame but no more Exped for me

at Sids do this year my exped dura 5 delaminated this is the third exped mat i have had do this the other two were down mats, these were just out of warranty and exped wanted nothing to do with them, so i decided to buy the dura, a mat that is reported to be in there words durable, this mat has been used for 6 weeks a year maximum for 4 years so still under warranty, i had to purchase a new mat to replace the dura while we were away as the holiday was not over, so i picked one up from decathalon in Avignon a Simmond mt 900 for 130 euro.
Once home i contacted exped and arranged to send it off for inspection , a few days later i recieved a email informing me that the mat had not been looked after correctly and this is what had caused it to delaminate, but as a good will gesture they would give me a credit note for what i paid for the mat £133.00 to spend with exped , Now i thought the gesture of money was ok, what i was not happy with was being told i had not looked after the mat, so i gave them a call and explained exactly what i do with my mat, how i inflate them how i store them and how i clean it, it of course fell on deaf ears,
So i put another £50.00 to the credit and got another exped this time the dura 6.5 R, if this fails i will not be touching exped mats again.

I mentioned it on here many years ago while on my travels. I purchased a 9LW in Aus and not long after the ribs decided to become as one. Exped said post it back and then they'd replace it. Then it went again in NZ they mentioned it could be because of a dodgy batch with the glue issue and said pop into a local dealer and swop it. No problem there and the bloke said keep the old one which was handy. This one is still going strong although it doesn't get used that often and usually by the Mrs.

I have an Exped 7 synmat, which works ok but is a bit narrow. My go to is a cheap Trekology, no insulation but very comfortable. Pair it with an waterproof & insulated floor mat from Decathlon and I’ve never felt any cold coming through, bonus is the whole tent floor is insulated from the ground.
