Experiences/views of 1200GSA with low first gear, please

Rode my GSA with enduro box in SA for 2 years.... fantastic in traffic and dirt roads with technical bits a breeze. Made the 3-day offroad course an absolute dream riding up and also starting from standstill on very steep inclines.......
new GSA .... have stalled on pull-away a couple of times so far and nearly dropped it when stalling as I was leaving the driveway and turning
now I make sure the revs are up ..... got used to it now, but if I replace this bike... it will be with enduro box again (I also asked at time of purchase and was told many weeks waiting .....

There's a message on my answerphone asking me to call Vines. I'm teatering on the verge of replacing my '10 GSA with standard 'box with one with the Enduro 'box. Expensive bought-in-haste mistake which will cost me £3,500.

yeah, that sounds like the gearbox's fault

Your gonna spend £3500 just for a lower first gear on a 12GSA
I have 2 GSA's, one with Enduro 1st and one with standard 1st gear and it makes feck all difference, which bike i'm riding on an Alpine pass
You'd be better saving your money and replacing a clutch (should it fail)

Yep. You're obviously a more acomplished rider than me
And clearly I have more money than sense. But I'm allowed to do what pleases me, aren't I? In fact I really liked the greater feeling of low speed control that the Enduro box gave me.

Indeed. I tried that on a right hand up hairpin in the Pyrenees last year and was able to make a very close inspection of the decals on the side of a very big coach coming down.
On my 1150GS I fitted the FD from an 850GS to get the Adventure gearing and it was the best and worst thing to do to the bike: it made it great for slow speed work but rubbish on the autoroutes.
I have got the lower 1st gear version and waited just a few weeks to get it as opposed to buying a standard GSA in-stock within dealer network. Very pleased so far although I can't believe it makes such a huge difference. Why don't you just sell your bike and get a lower first gear one? £3,500 seems a lot of dosh for a couple of teeth...
Er, isn't that what I'm doing? But by a very lazy route? I am also getting a shiny new toy
with a fresh warranty. I'd be buying the warranty anyway so that gets taken out of the 'upgrade' cost. At the 'exhange test ride' the mechanic observed that the rear disc might be warped ("that's common") and I already had it pencilled in for the inner section of the FD to be be replaced because of corrosion.Ah got it now, you can still have a good off-road bike for that money, but hey that wouldn't make you happy maybe
