explanations for change in consumption...?

Can't find anything in old threads, so looking for advice/suggestions!

04 plate 12GS - started to run a bit rough, and on acceleration would behave as if there were fuel starvation - i.e would lose power as you moved up through second and third, would then sort itself out until you did it again.

Took it in to the dealers, and they said it wasn't fuel starvation but electrics, and replaced the HT caps, and plugs.

Now back to running sweetly again. Only thing is, the fuel consumption has gone up. Now only getting a regular 35mpg on my usual daily commute through London, and 45mpg on long runs out to the sticks. Noticed this straight away, as the fuel indicator used to drop to half way at 95-100 miles indicated, now does so at 80-85miles indicated. Bike is running apparently fine though. Can't decide if the exhaust smells a bit rich or not, or if I'm just imagining that.

Any suggestions? Spark plugs gaps wrong? Tuning somehow gone off as result of new HT caps or plugs?

Be good to have an idea what it might be before I brave the dealer techs again...

'tis a strange one I know.

I'll go and check the colour of the plugs...

as for freeing up the wrist... been riding through the winter anyway so fairly free wrist already... just nice to have dry roads to lean over on now
