Re: X-Trail
Erm.....I see you are in Sheffield, thats not too far from a well known multi-franchise dealer that has sites in Chesterfield and dear old Sheffer's. The dealers name sounds like a well known brand of gin being followed by a herd of sheep (singular), not trying to be funny but I'm still negotiating with said party.
The sales guys are very good, but I'm afraid that when you get warned off using the workshops 'AFTER' you've bought the vehicle you feel like you are between a rock and a very hard place.
As for diesel fuel consumption, well I tend to drive a bit quick whereas my partner who tends to use TJ (afectionate name for the X) for work drives a little more light footed so figures are not calculated. But £39.00 a tankful roughly lasts a fair old time.
Have a test drive in a 2.2 turbo and you'll be pleasantly surprised, 6-speed box is excellent although 2nd can sometimes be a bit stiff (common fault) nothing like a Disco's box which is terrible (towed with a 2.5 for 2-3 years and before that a Strange Rover3.5 V8 .....towing race cars and blody great Merc's all on trailers).
The 4x4 is nigh on perfect and puts the clunky Range/Disco to shame. Beats the Freelander hands down, and you won't need head gaskets every 5000 miles either.
Ours is the SVE full leather, heated seats, air-cond,climate control etc etc. These thing will cruise at 100mph (private test track officer) 90mph in 6th = 3000rpm these things are brilliant. There must be a decent Dealer/workshop for warranty/service, and before anyone wonders why I don't do service and repairs on my own car...would you pay £20,000 and expect to; when the warranty expires that'll be a different story though.
Suppose I'd better mention OIL CONSUMPTION then eh! Well it has used 1litre of semi-synthetic (Castrol GTD Magnatec) in 6.500 miles, acceptable considering that I don't expect the engine to be fully bedded-in until about 20,000 miles.

Non GS question but I was thinking of an X-Trail myself & as you raised the subject what approx fuel consumption do you get & where's your dealer so I can avoid them!
Cheers
