Extended handguards on GSA

Trouble with hand guards is they make your palm wet. The water runs under the guards and drips off the underside edge, blown up to your palm. They're also pretty useless at keeping you warm.
Oxford muffs and heated grips make toast of your hands, although I still had cold spells in last years snow at 5am on the motorway. Just got a new pair and this years Ox muffs have an inside pocket to hold their hot grips..........now that's gonna be NNNNIIIICCCCCEEEE.

Muffs...

Extended hand-guards might offer more protection off-road (I have no idea myself) but they're useless at keeping the hands 'warmer' than normal hand-guards IMHO. From '09 the hand-guards dont have an inclosed 'underneath' section and this, in my view, is where they fall down. Pre '-09' I think they were fine and did over protection.

In my experience the > 09 handguards simply wick the cold air underneath the guard and catch the end of your fingers that are curled underneath the bar !

I'm not a fan of muffs - aesthetically they look bloody awful. However - I've plumbed for some of Bucks-pads ones from eBay. He's sent me some '30th Anniversary' ones that are white on top and have the 3 colours on the front. They work great. They'll be coming off when the weather gets better but my fingers arent dropping off after my hour commute. Yes - they're not cheap at £40 + £10 P&P.....but dividing that £50 by the number of cold days between now and Spring ..........its a small daily price to pay for warm fingers !

So....+1 for Bucks-pads - very well made and do what they set out to do !

Buck-Pads

Seeing as these Buck-Pads are so recommended and my pinkies are getting cold, I decided I'd get myself some but do you think I could find them? Nothing coming up on Ebay and nothing on the web... until I sussed it :JB

Buck-Pads is the seller on Ebay, not the name of the product!!!!!

For any that may be interested you can find them on Ebay by searching R1200GS Handlebar Mitts.
