Extended Warranty Time again.....................?

Yep -extend!

My c1 200 had £2500 of warranty claims in it's first 2 years ....

But would have been covered under the original manufacturers warranty - not extended.

Me, I chose not to because of the need to have the services carried out by the dealer network. If it were not for this requirement I would pay for it.

I do about 15-18k a year which is a lot of cash when the routine servicing is not that difficult.

It will obviously fit better for others, those who rack up mileages and cannot / do not do their own servicing would maybe want the peace of mind.

The only bike I ever took paid warranty on was the GS, and it will probably be the only bike I do ever do that for.

Seems to me those who buy it are happy, as are those who don't.

The only major failure I had on any bike was an RG500 throwing the gearbox through the engine cases, and the odd smaller two stroke rebuild - but that is part of ownership of small two-strokes.

It's a fully BMW service history that saved me a fortune, not an extended warranty. At 4 years 11 months old (being under 5 years was significant) I had an ABS pump failure and BMW paid for the part (£1250) and I paid for the labour (£265). The reason for their generosity was the full dealer history, relatively low mileage (£27K) and it was a major component.

From my experience, I get the feeling that things aren't black and white when it comes to problems with bikes between 2 and 5 years old. It's all about calculated risk but it certainly worked for me.
