How many with March 08 bikes are thinking of buying the extended warranty? I am given all the potential problems.

A 'no brainer' me thinks, yes will be buying. BUT I have had no real problems to date (other than usual recalls) so guess it's the big ones like piston failure I'm really nervous of.

good idea

BMW extended warranty
mine is £33.00 per month
you let them know when to cancel
so valid up to 80K miles
gives you European breakdown cover
had it for 2 years
had 2 problems sorted that were way over what my warranty was costing me
great piece of mind :thumb2

£396 per year seems a bit expensive, Its almost twice the cost of my bike insurance. Its a shame BMW do not have more confidence in their products and price the warranty on a scale depending on the bikes age and mileage.

 remember that warranty schemes are designed to be profite making - big time. You will call on your warranty sometime, we all do, but for most of us, it will be in 3 to 6 years from now, by which time you would have saved in the region of £2000 :D

Even if you do breakdown, the only real challenge is to find a local bike shop who can pick you up in a reasonable time.

...they do have confidence and they have done the sums. They have to have a warranty scheme, and they know that BMW riders are prepared to spend a lot of money.

Piston failure? Has anyone had a piston failure on any modern bike (with oil in it ) with under 80K miles on the clock.

The 3 rules of every insurance company..
1) make sure the odds are massively in the companies favour
2) trade off and promote anxiety of the customer
3) give plenty of customer love when they need you

Smaytum you old cynic you, surely BMW only have our best biking interest in mind!:augie

Well yes actually I have on my f800 thats why I worry about them going again.

If you haven't noticed, i'm a little anti warranties and insurance policies etc. My pet hate is Currys trying to sell me a warranty when i already have one called "the law". White goods act protects us all for 6 years, yet Currys still try to sell you another one, just in case :(

Sorry to hear about the piston failure (i knew I should have stopped at my moan about warranties :blast). Bet you could get it fixed at a very low cost though.. providing the bike has been services properly, then just start using the "reasonable wear and tear" line, give them the usual 10 days notice and they will jump into line. :comfort

If any of you are going to Ace Cafe on Sunday, then lets winge about warranties there :thumb2

Steve.

Steve.

A good friend of mine was recently let go from Curry's (he was on +50k), oh yes we all get 6-years warranty on White-goods. You need to know the correct jargon but seriously people. Protect your receipts from sunlight. Some company's now make it that they fade over time, I'd recommend sellotaping them air-tight.

If you can throw some info on here Steve, I'll keep hold of it] :beerjug:

I agree about currys and the likewith their extended warranty I never buy them, usually because the thing i've bought only cost a couple of hundred.

Don't worry about my piston failure BMW fixed it ...... under waranty!

Sorry won't be at ace cafe I live about 300 miles away, would like to go there one day though.

My 2 year waranty ends this September.

I called BMW customer services today for a quote for extended waranty.

they would not confirm as I have to get there invite letter automaticaly sent a few weeks before expiry.

but indicated about £250. per year with £100.00 excess.

has any one else gone for it? and know what it doesnt cover?
