I agree with Shep about the loyalty factor.Despite two trouble free years I decided to purchase the extended warrantee, in the first year a combination of BMW's goodwill, the extended warrantee and a little luck I managed to spend nothing on the bike except on consumables.
I renewed the policy again this year and in the first month after renewal I managed to avoid another big bill, not directly via the warrantee, but BMW seem to view your commitment to purchase the extension as a commitment to their product and I'm sure my 'loyalty' to them and to the dealer (via full BMW service history) is taken into account when discussing goodwill gestures

I have just renewed for the 2nd time 06 bike.
Last year had a new diff unit, tyre, and brake pads under "BMW loyalty"when the rear seal leaked oil again, bill was £1200.
Another thing no one seems to have mentioned is the fact that you get BMW Assistance in the price.
For the piece of mind the whole thing is well worth the £320.
Unfortunately GS's are not bullet proof as BMW try to make us think as this site on the various problems show. They break and are expensive to repair.
