I am looking to buy a 1200gs that has one month of its standard 2 year warranty left. Does anybody know if I am able to extend the warranty for another 12 months? I read on this forum that you had to apply 90 days before the standard warranty runs out or you can not extend the warranty. Unfortunately the BWM website says nothing about this; I cannot seem to get it confirmed.
Can anybody throw any light on this.

Mine's 2 years old on 6th Sept.

Got a letter from BMW last week advising of the 3rd year warranty which I have taken out.

Call your dealer or BMW Customer Services and get it sorted.

I have gone the nil excess route for £360 and it looks like a very good deal, plus it's transferrable to another owner.

Extended Warranty

BMW made me the kind offer of an extended warranty for the princely sum of approximately £1. per day.
I read into the terms further, & discovered this would have been increased considerably because the warranty is only vaild if servicing is carried out by an official BMW dealer.
In my case this would have been an additional £600+ per annum extra, or over £950 per year for a warranty.
It is cheaper to buy a fuel pump controller & antenna ring & carry them with one.
I normally service my own bike, & am not going to pay someone £300+ to change the oil & filter. (We have a Skoda & Seat at home, & these cost circa £85.00 per service at dealer - price difference is horrendous - suggesting big windows in BMW dealer's showroom)

You can extend it up to the day before the bikes 2nd birthday (date of registration)

Look here http://www.motorrad-warranty.co.uk/Pages/Home.aspx

Not sure about the 'before the bikes 2nd birthday' bit... my bike was registered in 2005, and I only took out extended warranty this year (July 2009) - effectively the bike was without warranty for ~ 1 year. I have had it serviced by authorised BMW dealers though - I think the people at the motorrad-warranty call centre can access the bike's official service record.
