External hard drive back up

My external hard drive does not automatically back up. It used to, then those pratts at Novatech talked me through a problem I had with the CD drive, now the hard drive does not update my changes.

Also Itunes doesn't work correctly, I recall that Novatech changed filters somewhere.

Help!

Message comes up:

"The registry settings used by the iTunes drivers for importing and burning cd's & dvd's are missing. This can happen as a result of adding other cd burning software. Please reinstall iTunes"

I've tried reinstalling iTunes, but the same message comes up.

I can copy CD's to my iPod, but it doesn't identify the artist or tracks, which is crap.

Any suggestions for the back up of the external hard drive?

Honestly, I'm really pleased. I couldn't record any Cd's. Weel maybe they could, but, they were not labelled!

What version of Windows is it? you can do a pretty simple backup with something like Robocopy that's built in, or Windows backup.

Is it a pretty standard USB drive, or something like a Western Digital?
