external hard drive recovery software Mac

I just sent the drive back, just out of warranty....:augie 18 months freecom recovered it all and sent me a new drive.

2 drives for the costs of one shagged one....:thumb2

There might some advice on the manufacturers website about it.... best of luck...

I managed to accidentally wipe a drive recently and had some success recovering the data using an application called Data Rescue which was free IIRC.

The only issue was that the recovered files were renamed in sequential order, e.g. D0000113.xls. So you lost the meaningful filenames but the file extension and data integrity was maintained.

To find particular documents again I normally use Spotlight to search for a term I was certain was present in the file or similar scroll through the listing using preview to show the cover page.

Note this will only work if a delete was involved but not a 'strong' delete or format.

Not free, but it will let you try before you buy.

Lots of Seagate drives have a 5 year warranty btw.

Can you replace and restore, or do you have data you stand to lose?

Have contacted seagate, so awaiting a reply.

i have 2360+ images to lose....they are alot backed up on DVDs but would like to recover the ext HD if poss...

Cheers
