I have an external hard drive which i formatted on an old mac ibook. it has some pictures on it i want but when i plug it in a windows computer it dosent show?

its showing in divice manager but its not showing in my computer so i dont know how to open it?

This may or may not work...

MAC and Linux were close bed fellows, try running a linux live CD/DVD and see if that sees the files if it does copy the files copy them to a fat drive and jobs a good un.

Linux live iso images can be found on net and you then just burn them to disc, reboot pc making sure first boot device is your dvd drive and you should get a linux desktop.

Another way if you know someone with a mac. Set up a "dropbox" account on your windows pc, I think you get so much storage for free, share the account with the person with the mac, upload photos from the external HD via the mac to dropbox, download from dropbox to windows pc, delete or keep dropbox account.

I know this works as it's how I move photos between our macs and win PC's at home.

if you no longer have access to a Mac try this HFSExplorer this will let you read HFS formatted disks, not write just read. Should work OK.
