Extra fuel tank

I was looking around for some way to extend the range of my CRM & found a very interesting site in Ozland supplying these...

nomad tanks

When I enquired, they were awaiting new stock of the No4's but delivery to the UK was AUS$50, so it worked out at about £130, delivered.

They're tough...

...but they're black & so are inherently lethal :thumb but fastest (of course).

It's innovative, practical, and versatile, cost effective, does the job and for the time being probably unique. Off the cuff British engineering. Great. Well done. :thumb2

As for the aesthetics; well beauty is in the eye of the beholder but you can't exactly call any of the Teutonic functional GSs beautiful can you especially the 1200s.

No, I don't have one yet. And I can't find a supplier in the UK. Last year on eBay I saw a Buell Ulysses with one fitted. The seller was in the UK, so there might be a non-US source.

But I wonder if a small 4gal (pin) beer barrel would do the trick. I can't find any info on metal barrels that small, they all seem to be plastic at that size.

I know the guy who had this bike and had the tank fitted - he imported it from the States (no supplier in the UK), by the time he had it fitted etc cost around £500.( He used the bike on one trip to Norway and the exhaust bracket broke near Nordkapp, got it home and stuck it on ebay!)

Although I personally don't like the look of it, (just my oppinion) well done to Grim for making it :clap

There are a few on here who clearly don't know what they are on about, black fuel tanks dangerous

If you do want extra fuel a mate of mine used a Kolpin when he toured Europe on his XT660 and thought it was great:thumb2

I very nearly bought that bike, but as I was getting everything ready Buell announced they'd been shut down by HD so I decided against it.

aux tank

I like the idea , and guy welds very nicely, its a shame he didnt make the edges a bit more radiused, (which is prob very difficult), so in the event of an off, you havnt got any square edges to dig into you.
And the flexi hose on top kinda spoils it, could you not use some steel pipe, far neater.
otherwise top marks for effort,i always find the first one leads to a second improved version.
I always fancied one underneath your top box,out of the way, kinda 16"x12"x3" ish size.dont know what the capacity would be.
also thought if the tank had a sealed vent, you could use stored vapour pressure to push the fuel from the aux to the main tank with no pump, providing the main tank would accept the fuel completely.
As the bike shook up and down the vapour pressure created would hopefully be enough to force the fuel from rear to front.
oh just thought, you would need a tap in the supply line to stop it filling at will.
i would put the filler pipe in the top of the main tank, so it wouldnt syphon back, just an idea..atb Paul

Looks like a nice neat solution to me! Well done.:D

Interesting range of comments folks -nothing like doing something different to polarise a few opinions :nenau

Surprised to see how some people seem to think it dangerous to carry fuel on a motorbike, have a black tank, carry any weight on the back of a bike (pillion or topbox anyone?) or are paranoid about border crossings. As for being ugly - its a GS! And of course it's not like this would be built to comply with the necessary laws or anything

Of course most people do not need such a thing, but it has been built for a specific purpose, which is for competing in long distance rallies, and to have the option of carrying it or not. :beerjug:

it ll only get negative thoughts until it catches on then it ll be the best thing since sliced bread;)
