Well hopefully my bike will be delivered in 2 or 3 weeks a GSA TE in blue :)

So I am not planning any big trips until next spring summer as this is my first venture away from sports bikes and I need to get used to the different style first.

I am thinking of a few extras but as usual money is always a factor so some advice please what do you think of

Gear assist pro ?

Nav V ?

Akraprovic ?

I initially was planning on all my savings for the Acroprovic but a few of you have said how good the gear assist is.
I know the Akraprovic is just about sound but I like the idea of a deeper note without sending the misses deaf on the back.

Any advice appreciated :thumb

Thanks Paul.

I have the gear assist pro. It is really good particularly when you are going quickly. It blips the throttle on the down change so with the Akro it should sound fantastic. Still saving for that the pipe.

I also have the Nav 5 which I upgraded from the sumo 660. Definitely worth the money. Works really well with the thumb wheel.

I also have the Gear Assist Pro... of the extras you listed, it would be the one I would get. The thing is freakin awesome... specially when going quickly. It's addictive.

My vote is the Acro, sounds awesome. Gear assist is a track toy. The Sat Nav is a must, personally, I am hopeless with directions.

What you do need is the machine art front fender extender and the mudsling at the back.

The front fender extender is all you need up front as the front wheel is so much closer to the engine that this will prevent stone chips to the painted surface of the engine.

The rear swing arm is exposed where it runs in front of the rear wheel. It's also a painted surface and will chip and corrode quite quickly IMHO

The mudsling which I fitted yesterday now extends beyond this giving it total protection for the future. Both these items are circa £170 but money well worth spending.

As you've not had a GS before you may or may not notice the adjustable screen tends to flap about a bit. I've fitted the Cymarc screen support brackets and a great bit of kit for £42 ;)

Akro sounds great and looks nice. Gear shift assist I've heard is good to have if you have regular pillions on as it prevents the usual gear change head butts :D

Nav 5 is the nuts. You don't really need anything else as the TE is a well sorted bike with lots of nice goodies as standard. The front lights and led spots are firkin amazingly bright

Enjoy ya new bike :thumb2

All three extras you've listed are great, and I have them on mine, but in order of preference, I'd say Nav V, GSA pro, Akra.

And make sure you get the fender extender and mudsling.:thumb

Selling Some Parts

Hi Paul

I am selling my GS and have a number extras that I'll be selling, not sure if you'll be interested. Have a brand new tinted screen, Sat Nav IV, full Remus system, Touratech Engine Bars, Panniers and back box, sw-motech gear change lever and pegs. If your interested send me a message and I can send some pictures.

Cheers
Neil

Get the bike.
Ride it for a month then see what you NEED.:thumb2

What he said. I have the Blue GSA with all of the bits you mention plus some. For me the Akra would be first - lovely note all of the time. Then it would be the Gear Assist Pro. This is not essential but sure adds fun and a grin factor to the machine. And then the Nav V . Too practical but can be invaluable, although paper maps still do the job. An essential fit for me was the 40mm bar risers, which make a big difference to me as I am tall.

Difficult choice for you, but fun deciding no? :thumb

Hope you enjoy the bike :D

For me, front crud catcher, mudsling rear, nav 5 as its used ALL the time, I bought mine very near to purchase day of bike & got a bit of discount, made it a reasonable price.!
A cheap bit of hose to wrap the centre stand cross brace. (to deflect stone chips, preserve paint)

My quick shift piece of crap, can't be working correctly, gotta go back dealers again for another attempt.. Other than that it's coming off.!

Mudslings, Gear Assist Pro. The Akro, no thanks.....I reckon my Mivv Suono is as well made, beautiful welding, looks nicer and is less than half the price.

Gear Assist Pro is a hoot though, I'd go for that, it's so much more than a track day toy :)

The one thing to remember is most of the named brand parts hold value very well. You can expect a two thirds return when sold on in years to come.

With that in mind I would say spend the extra on the Akropovic as you will always get an amazing return when sold on in 4,5,6 years time. Lesser known brands don't carry that residual value.

Zumo 660 is good enough. Nav V is better, but is it worth it? Dunno.

Gear shift pro is not needed. Down to you if you want to wish you had bought a sports bike.

Afte market cans are for noise only. Akro as flippin pricey. Get an sc-project exhaust deliveed for less than half the price at €400; its a damned good piece of kit and I am v pleased with mine - baffle out permanently.

I'm in similar situation to the OP. First foray away from SPorts bikes. I am surprised no one seems to suggest protection for the cylinder heads as the first purchase. Either the case savers of crash bars? Am I wrong in thinking this should be first?

For the standard GS LC then yes but the GSA has it covered. Excuse the pun  best designed factory crash bars on a GS so far in my opinion :beerjug:

I've got a Nav 4 and find the wheel a waste of time. Does it do anything extra when hooked up to a Nav 5?

Certainly does, zooms in and out and accessess the other 4 screens on the nav5.

Does a lot more I'm sure like answer calls and shit but I've not finished reading all the gubbins yet. :D

Yep, lots more integration with the bike, and you can zoom in and out easier.:thumb

can you answer the phone (since the call [and caller ID] shows up on the Nav5 screen) using the wheel ?

on my last ride , I took to using my hand to touch the Nav5's screen to answer the call , which was on reflection a bit dangerous.

.
