Hi Guys

Anyone recommend where you can do some extreme riding in the UK. More interested in a practice ground or "casual" event rather than one of the pukka "Extreme Enduros" put on by Fast Eddy or the like.

Steep hills that are more likely to beat you than you beat them, nasty ravines, that sort of thing.

I'm based in Reading - tho' I appreciate this will involve a trek.

I'm road legal on a TE 510 not that I suppose it matters (or I could take the 690!).

Thanks, Mike

With your recent exploits - I would have thought that extreme riding would emcompass 10 feet of ruts on the ridgeway?

How is your collarbone now?

I laughed out loud!
It's funny how you start making plans when you are in an enforced 'rest'.
I'll keep an eye on this post.:beerjug:

Sign on as a travelling marshall

You could go along to most enduro's and sign on as a travelling marshall, you get out on the circuit early, do as much as you want and practice any obstacles or tricky bits as much as you want because you can nip round off circuit and try it again. All you have to do is keep your eyes open for anyone in trouble or causing trouble.
Enquire before you go if you're not sure and it's free, some, like PMCRC, even give you a free lunch :thumb2
Might be what you're looking for.

As mentioned, sign on as a travelling marshal at SETRA's events at Tidworth.

No shortage of deep rutted chalk climbs to choose from there :blast

Chomping at the bit...

The shoulders fine Mike thanks, physio now. It was plated and so a bit sore again for a bit.

More painful was missing the last two BBRC (which on the GS1150 is "extreme" in its own lardy, fall off, pin you to the ground sort of way...) and the Witley 100 this coming week end. Maybe I could have done the Witley but better to get the bones knitted rather than depend on the plate - esp considering my propensity to end up on my arse. How the pro's come back in a matter of days after getting a bone plated Christ knows?

Anyhow ladies - I potentially have us a ride sorted, thanks to recommendations on the Katoom forum...

Adult 2.5 hour extreme hare scramble
Youth H&H 1.5 hour race
Stand-Alone Extreme Event
Destination Portland (Nr Weymouth )2.5 hour extreme hare scramble
Course Description:
The course works its way round two quarries, incorporating gullies, technical climbs and descents with some open going. This is an all weather track with breath taking views from the top of Portland. Laid out like a labyrinth within the old overgrown sections but mostly in the new workings, also includes the occasional wooded area. Every part of the quarry will be used. On a toughness level we would gauge it at about 8/10.

Its probably a tad too soon for me to compete, as I plan to get back on the bike for the first time with a bit of gentle laning the weekend before - so travelling marshalling is my plan. Care to join me. Scuppers my pencilled in plan to go to the Dirt Bike Show that day but wtf.

Room on my trailer for one more....

Blue Light Off-Road Club (BLORC) regularly run events at Bagshot and Salisbury, pretty good fun and not as competitive / aggressive as Enduros.
