EZCAN Or CanSmart power lead cutting.

Has anyone cut the battery power leads and installed an inline connector so the CanSmart can easily be unplugged rather than going down the route of taking the connections off the battery and dragging the cabling out?

My laptop won't turn on so I'll need to take it off and attach it to my P.C. to change the options, a right royal pain in the arse. Even if it is infrequently.

I can't for-see an issue with your plan. They are only power lines and no data is transmitted this way.

Remember though the CANSmart needs power when being updated - so you'll need a 12V source for it when with you Laptop.

Ive cut & extended the power lines on my Hexhead cansmart unit

I contacted Hex, who said it was the correct length, It is, sort of if you put it under the battery tray. But not ideal

I wanted in the same location as the LC, ie under the rear seat, so because i was unlucky enough to have a dead unit replaced under warranty

and had to cut all the wires off, i had a spare set of power leads which i extended and ran to the battery

So yes you can extend the wires

I have cut and extended the power lead (just remember to keep the fuse as close to the battery as possible) and also cut and extended the wires between the ezCAN unit and the canbus connections. I needed to do this to allow the ezCAN to be mounted under the beak to minimise the modulation of the front lamps at lower power outputs.
All cables were then shrouded, power separately than data, in braided cable wire sleeving to minimise any damage caused by abrasion. Its been ok for the past few months. Yes I have more than likely invalidated the warranty but I couldn't find any other way the reduce the flickering of the lamps.
