f 650 GS Dakar ABS switch

I've had a wire come off the underside of the ABS switch. BMW want 40 quid for a new switch!!
I can't solder it because it's on the base of the switch where it's broken off.
Question is if i just snap the other wire off and join them up and ignore the switch will this give me ABS on always ?

I believe the ABS sensor transmits pulses to the ECU so I don't believe soldering them together will work, but I don't know for sure.

Maybe i'm looking at this wrong ? The switch turns the ABS on and off so the switch just breaks the circuit, thus if i join the wires it's a constant ?

I do know that nothing is simple, maybe i should pull them apart and try and melt the solder on the base of the switch and try to reconnect. I know BMW are a bit tight with the lengths of wire they allow at connections.

If it is the other way round, eg circuit made for ABS on then shorting the wires together permanently will work fine.

... I'd give MotorWorks a try too, they're often a great source for good used parts too!

Hi Alan, I'm just waiting on three new battery plate mounts before the battery goes back in so i can't test at the moment. I have soldered the two (brown/black) ABS switch wires together, so this will either make ABS on permanent, or off permanent. I'm more concerned about causing a electrical problem by joining the two wires when the battery goes back on. I'm not even sure if the ABS switch is an on/off switch or just a dash light test or something ? I've tried to get the old solder off the switch connections, but on closer inspection the switch has had some water ingress anyway so is knacked. Maybe i'll ask a tech guy at BMW for a deffo answer. Thanks for your help though.

Saw this thread, and I'm wondering what you've found out. I'm new to the 650GS, and I've got an ABS switch that doesn't appear to do anything. I've not tried too hard to see if the ABS actually functions.
The switch on my old R1100RS was a momentary contact which turned the ABS off until you reset the ignition. I assumed this was the same.

I'm sure I still have an ABS switch from my K1100LT somewhere, ends about 15cm with a roundish connector if that's any help you're welcome to it.

Sorry mate only just seen your post.
In the end i just bought a new ABS switch as the originals wire was snapped off, and the inners had water damage faults.

I could be wrong but I think you switch it before the lights go out
