Well, its time to replace my trust north face starbust tadpole tent after many years of service.. Just started looking at a new tent for touring this summer.

I am 6'3" so want a tent with a little bit extra head room ( 1.05m-1.30m) incase of weathered in periods..

So has anyone used any of the lasted F10 (Force Tent) done tents..??

Having suffered from cheap tent syndrome and having never been let down by my trusty north face.. i am prepared to shell out for a reliable high quality tent.. the new F10 Baltoro 3 man looks a good contendor..

Rocks my old geologian.. you could do significantly worse than considering the Exped Orion.

It's a two man tent but perfectly portable on the GS and you can fit all your kit (including panniers) inside.

Googled web details here

I got mine here

It's a serious 4 season tent, very practical and just that bit taller (i'm 6ft) to make life easier.

If you do a search through the GSer threads you will find that Les is a very approachable and informed person (rides a BMW so knows where we are coming from) and his customer service is second to none. If nothing else he will give you some sound advice. I spent several hours with him trying out various tents, erecting them and eventually even sleeping in one before buying.... the one he originally suggested - the Orion.

Questions sent..

Thanks for that.. have sent a pm..

Certainly looks interesting indeed.. never heard of the make before, so interested. I have to admit to being a bit "brand blind" with tents and outkit and sticking with what i have known in the past.. so interesting to see how these exped tents match up..

Les..

Have rung Les at Traveldri a couple of times.. just got the answer machine for the moment...

Some nice other bits of kit on their site though.. time to hide the credit card me thinks..

Rocks

I'll second the call for exped tents.
I've got an andromeda - class kit.

I got mine from www.gear-zone.co.uk & I've just noticed that they're now doing them for £167, which is a steal. I paid £245 last September. Bum!

Good..

Yep, used Terra Nova Quasars and Hyperspaces in the past.. bloody good tents, though a tad costly.. and low on space.. they are real mountain tents designed for close quater sleeping and minimum kit. Low aerodynamic shape to keep the wind shear against the tent down.

So, ok for people under 6' and will as the man says.. last a long time if looked after.

I returned my North Face Starburst fly sheet after 5 years of use to get a repair to the fly seem. It was done for free.. not questions asked.. i didnt even have the reciept or anything. BUT not sure if that standard of customer service still applies as they seem to have gone a bit more "fashion" orientated.

For the mo, I have gone for cookies and shiannini's advise and am looking at the exped orion..

Calling Madmountainman...Richie, you have a wigwam service call on line one.........

Don't buy anything until you've looked up the beasty that MMM's got.....If I could afford one, it's what I'd get......serious kit and if that lanky twat can do the pogo in his, it should be fine for you too ;)

A search on Madmountainman and tents/wigwams should get you started until he picks up the thread ;)

Another vote for the Exped Andromeda here (not only is it a brilliant bit of kit but it packs down very small). :thumb

That'll be because he's at the Ally Pally show I should think!
