F650 sidestand

I went out for a ride on my recently acquired F650GS (great fun!) but rapidly discovered I can't put the sidestand down! The footpeg gets in the way of my leg when swinging it forwards.

I had problems with the demo bike I took out, but thought it was a knack yet to be learned & I didn't ride my bike back from the dealer.

The solution will be an extra bit welded on the sidestand and wondered if anyone has any photo's of modifications they have made?

I dont have any problems with mine. I have never really paid attention to how I do it, it just works.

you are correct,they are like the old Airhead side stands, i have to look down each time,rather than just find it with my foot/boot

Hi Elle,

I hadn't really thought about mine but when I checked I realised that I hook my heel onto the hoopy bit and it swings well clear of the footrest.

I also note that I have to lean the bike a little to the right for the stand to have a clear swing.

How are you enjoying the bike? I have around 400 miles so far but I am running in very cautiously - I am only now giving it 5000 revs.

I do the same thing but my leg gets stuck on the footpeg which doesn't lift out of the way without moving my foot & then the side stand springs back! grr...

I had the same problem when I first got mine. I even had to get someone to rescue me at the dealer when I took it for a test ride and couldnt put the stand down when I got back.

Somehow I just got used to it.

I don't even know how I do it! I think the problem may be small feet but I know yours are the same size as mine so it should be ok eventually.

I've tried again with the stand and it's definitely a heel job.

My second tankful has dropped to 65mpg due to the fact I'm driving it harder than I would normally in order to run it in at the higher revs, I'm also keeping it off motorways. Once I run in and start driving economically I expect dramatic improvements (being a lard ass probably doesn't help)

My r100r averages 39mpg and my C1 200 77mpg - I'm hoping for 65-70 ridden "enjoyably"

mine the same. it even worst when you have a pillion on board. The wunderlich sidestand foot enpand make it harder. But i have no problem when riding alone.

What's the significance of a pillion? Would you not keep both feet on the ground ( and the stand up) when they mount/dismount?

These are seriously good bikes - I have 440 miles so far and am running in over 1500 miles, so it will be a while before I have the full picture. I am a little concerned about helmet noise, I probably require moulded earplugs or, failing that, a different screen ( don't most BMWs ? )
