Well, first I d like to thank all of you for your help throughout the past 3 years of owning and enjoying rides on a F650GS twin (09)
As a newbie on motorbikes, without this site it would have been much more difficult to make the right choices, and almost impossible to learn so much...

Now, all this comes to a sudden and unfortunate pause as my bike got stolen yesterday. Parked in front of a camera on a very busy road (City road in London) the thieves did not hesitate...

Having seen a few of those posts uploaded here I thought it might be a good idea to inform you, maybe this warning will save someone elses bike. Apparently, the police has had an unusually high amount of stolen vehicles lately in London.

Now, in the off case you happen to see my baby, a silver metallic F650GS 09 with newly changed Avon tires and plates LG59WUB thrown somewhere...

I ll be back as soon as it's found or the insurance decides to sort me out with a new one (maybe I ll go the extra mile for the 1200)

Ride safely
T

Really sorry to hear that your baby has been kidnapped. I can but hope that the camera footage (CCTV?) serves to help identify the b*st**ds and more importantly helps in aiding the recovery of your bike.

Probably worth watching Ebay for 650 twins of dubious provenance too. It'd be useful if BMW could trace any reappearance of your engine/frame numbers into the BMW EU network on their systems??

Good luck and commiserations.

You need to subscribe in order to be able to access the For Sale/Wanted sections. May I recommend that you do just that?

I imagine that there will be a delay while the insurance company decides that the bike is gone for good.

BTW all new BMWs now come Datatagged and the BMW alarms are a lot more sane than they used to be.

I may be selling my two month old f650GS SE (the yellow and black one) if you are interested.

Good luck with getting it all sorted.

Phil

Nope - it's an honest, straight bike :blagblah

I sold one of my C1s today (I still have two left) so the fleet is moving in the right direction. I need to rehome my r100r (1992 airhead) next.

Thanks guys..
Insurance came back and I ll try to increase the pay out by providing examples of values from known sources like motorrad etc...
I m currently drooling for a k1300r (used) so most probably I ll be taking that road...
Any of you have any opinions on gps tagging or trackers? I like the idea of knowing where my bike is all the time and as I m a very happy owner of an IP camera for home I can see the benefit on having something like that for your bike. Anytime it moves you d receive a text message or email with the exact location. In addition you can at anytime check to see that the bike is exactly where you left it. In addition I could use it for recording trips etc..
Browsing on the net I ve only found some sold in the US but tbh didn't have too much time to invest on the research yet.
I also read BMW installs something similar to their cars so I m wondering how come they don't have a factory installed gps tracking device available...

I have bought a gps tracker for my camper van. They work on jet skis, snow mobiles, industrial plant, quadbikes so motorbikes are easy. Cost me £125 at a show ( half price) basic subscription from £7 per month

I'll dig up the make later on.
