Hi,
being a bit short of leg and new to geared bikes, after test riding a few I'm thinking the F650GS maybe the bike for me.......I did want an F800....but little legs, little confidence etc. etc.

So the question to all you happy new owners is what did you spec your new bike to come with ?

The on-line options list seems very short to me;

No heated grips, handguards, ABS, luggage, engine bars etc. etc.

Also what have you added since you got it and from where ??

Thanks

Mark

Hi Mark.....
Mine's due for delivery next month........:bounce1....
At present I've got a 2003 F650GS, which is factory lowered, with the low seat, which is fine for me being 5ft 1 (just!)
My F650GS twin will also be factory lowered with a low seat....I test rode one at Ocean Plymouth and, to sit on, felt like my old bike...but performance wise is a totally different bike...awesome....:cool:
I believe I'm having ABS, heated grips (a must), scottoiler, panniers, beak protector thingy, ? hand guards and white lenses as extras....I can't remember anything else....
I too, went to try out the 800GS....lovely looking bike, but I'm not tall enough to ride it safely....so a bit of a non starter....but having rode the new 650, I'm more than happy......:clap :bounce1

New GS

Hi Mark,
I'm a newby here - bought a brand new 650GS and went up to Dundee to uplift it last Wednesday. You're right - it doesn't come well specked - I took one they had ordered (so I could get it quicker) and it was coming in Silver (yummy), centre stand, ABS, Heated Grips, white lenses and a BMW Alarm. They knocked nearly £500 off it and I couldn't stop smiling all the 100 miles home!.
I would heartily recommend the heated grips / ABS (You can switch it off). The white lenses look good and I've still to use the centre stand - the alarm will at least (I hope) give me a little notice if someone is trying to blag the bike.
I had test ridden a couple of the older GSs and was all set to buy one from Motorrad in Embra - but they were outrageous - no discount / advice / manners - when I decided on a whim to go to John Clark, Dundee as they had a ride-out day on. Next thing I'd signed on the dotted line and got the bike within 2 weeks. It is my first 'BIG' bike since a Suzuki DR400 / Maiko 440 20 yrs ago and I can't believe how gutsy it feels - I'm off to France on it in 5 weeks and can't wait to get going.
If you need / want any more info let me know - I'm trying to source / try alternatives for the expensive alu panniers (am even looking at TESCO.Com panniers for £40) - Brother in Law had ordered them and I'm going to see how / if they fit until I can afford 'real' ones.

Yes basic cost of the bike is very good but the extras do add a heck of a lot to the cost. Fortunately I'd budgeted plenty so am not stinting! My 650 came with ABS, heated grips and centre stand and I've since added handguards, oil filter guard and locking oil filler cap. On order are TT engine bars, bigger screen, sidestand extender and radiator guards, also Metal Mule balanced panniers. Only hope it all arrives before we set out on our 6 week Central European trip at the beginning of June. So far there's little sign of the Touratech stuff.

Oops! forgot the brilliant HID lights Les Wassal fitted for me! You can certainly see me coming now!

I'm even more tempted now....cheers guys :beerjug:

Anyone care to share the costs for their extras; ABS, heated grips, scottoiler, panniers, beak protector, hand guards ?

Just so that I can be mentally prepared before I go along and order :blast

:eek: Oh my god......!!!!!

How much for extras;

ABS £510
Heated Grips £195
Hand Guards £149
Engine Guard £185

and the worst of all.......

Vario Panniers £655 !!!!!!!!

Yeah... But... Well... You Know.... I needed it all... Sort of...

I have to say i don't recognise some of those prices for extras. The BMW handguards costs me less than £100(not £149) including the large protectors and spoilers. The full BMW engine guard is £147 (not £185) and that's before any discount you can get for buying the bike in the same place you order extras.

Even if you add £23 for the fasteners needed on the F650 (included for the engine guard on the 800) that still makes £170 before any discount.

picked up my shiny red new F650gs this morning - the added bling includes ABS, heated grips, on board computer, center stand, white lenses, tyre pressure control and a restrictor kit :thumb2
Put it's first 100+ miles on today bringing it home :roll
It's fab.
Bling still to come - scottoiler, beak and panniers - and I want engine bars and handguards at some point - pref before I drop it :eek:
