Hi,

I have an 09 F800 GS with £16K on the clock which over the last few days has been doing some strange things with the gear number indicator. I was travelling yesterday along at around 40 mph and noticed that the gear number indicator was changing across all ratios when I wasnt changing gear!

Then this morning I started it up and left it running and it stalled, started it again and I noticed that the indicator jumped from N to 1 and as it was on the stand it stalled.

Has anyone had this issue?

thanks

Not on mine either, at 30,000.

Sounds like a simple case of the gear selection detector switch coming loose, or the cable to it - possibly water ingress?

Slippery stuff that electricky, Could be bad connection to battery or water or bad connection to earth/frame. The stalling would be my main concern.

Had a similar problem, seems that a little part somewhere on the engine/gearbox was busted, has been replaced under waranty. Since than, a few months later, starting to have the same problem again.
First once every few weeks, but the frequency of mishaps goes up, 'till it's no longer a twitch, but a real issue :(

Man, love my 800, but ignintion lock faillure, EWS ring faillure, battery faillure, ignition lock faillure again (that time, completely changed), seized up front sprocket (it took the mechanics, yep, plural, more than an hour to remove it), busted steering head bearing (replaced under warranty). Now i'm facing yet another blown steering head bearing, and the clutch is starting to slip and feels weird when loosening the clutch lever in a gentle way, like a raw mechanic friction.

It's starting to get to me :nenau

Grtz, Philip!

Not quite the same I know. However, mine did stop showing the change from 5th to 6th for one weekend. A good clean later and all was well. I've no idea if the clean fixed it, or it just went away.

Defy the hosepipe ban and see if it works. I think the fine is only £1000.:D
