Not an artical as such, but opinions based on the Trans America's rides that Julia and Nick Saunders.

Came out quite well really, just the seat and soft rims to complain about.:thumb2

yeah, I was on that trip (I'm the one that flipped the 1150 :blast) and thought they were so impressive I bought one as soon as I got back :D

Well, the 1150 was going to be on a boat for a while, and will need some TLC when it finally gets home, and I wasn't going to be bike-less now, was I :augie

There was one bike that didn't make it all the way, though, the 12GS that was crashed as it damaged the electrics in such a way that it no longer ran. But it was used to salvage parts so the lowered 12GS that broke it's swingarm could be put back on the road... the way they kept all the bikes going was quite something! :bow:bow

Was a really interesting article! Be interesting to see how my 650gs copes with the trip! Im shipping it out in about two years time to do south america! Can't wait! :)

Er.. it's Kevin and Julia. What a nightmare getting confused with being Nick Saunders.

Interesting that Kevin commented on the fuel range of the F800GS, my experience with the F650GS is the range on motorways is slightly short of a R1200GS and on other roads is better. I suppose having a very strong headwind is like being on a motorway.

I went to Morocco last year with a mate. He drove a single cylinder F650GS Dakar and I rode my F800GS. We stopped for fuel often and at every stop I put less in the tank than he did. For every 10 litres the 650 Dakar used, I used about 8 litres!

Although the magic fuel at Marrakesh is still a mystery... over 350 miles on a tank.... what was that about.
