Just back from 5 days up the Western coast of Scotland
and thought I would post a quick good/bad points about the bike & equipment as this was my first long ride on this bike:
GOOD POINTS:-
Reliability - bike was faultless
Tyres - Tourances were great in the dry and (very) wet conditions
Rox Risers - Great improvement on the std bar position for me, really made it a more comfortable reach for the bars
Touratech Comfort Seat - Big difference over the std seat, well worth the money
Fuel Economy - Fantastic @ 61.5mpg for the trip, better still, I travelled with a mate on a Transalp 700 and every tank was between £2 and £5 cheaper!!
Vario Panniers & Argos Cooler Bags (Liner Bags) - Waterproof and the cheap alternative liner bags were a great suggestion!
Throttle Rest - Best £5 ever spent for the 4 hr M6/M5 jaunt to Glasgow, totally eradicated my normally aching left wrist during motorway work - bit fiddley when you pull off though.
BAD POINTS:-
Aftermarket Screen - Metal Mule screen looks the part and shields a lot of the wind blast to the upper body & helmet........ at the cost of being deafening to the rider with the roar of turbulance which pierces one's brain at anything over 60mph. Easily relieved by standing on the pegs or placing your hand at the top of the screen - neither of which would be condoned by the police I am sure! Now left with the dilemna of either switching back to std or adding the £90 extender from Touratech.
Indicators - I know these are like Marmite on here, love them or hate them. I hate them - particularly after 9hrs in the saddle when your wrists aching and stiff, and reaching the cancel switch becomes almost impossible!
Idiot Car Drivers on Motorways - Rode 1100 miles without incident, but hit traffic on the motorway, 100 miles from home and within 5 miles had 5 drivers nearly kill me by sidestepping into the outside lane where I was sitting!!
Great trip all in all, beautiful area and can't wait to set off touring on my GS again soon!!
