I'm liking the look of this. I'm thinking about what my next bike will be, and would like it to be as good as my current middleweight off-road (Tiger 900), if not better without sacrificing road comfort. The F900GS or Adventure version look pretty good potential alternatives.

The one area I'm hoping to improve on with my next bike is the capability off-road, specifically the Tiger has quite a steep rake at 24.4 degrees, whereas the F900GS has a more typical adventure bike rake of 27 degrees. There is an attempt by Triumph to solve for this off-road with settings that put the front on maximum pre-load and the rear on minimum preload (the idea is you sacrifice some rear suspension travel for a slightly better geometry with a less flighty front end).

I've already tried the obvious answer which is the KTM 890R, but honestly just didnt gel with it. I suspect it would be better off-road though.

Not sure about the 900 but the older f650/800/700’s have a very long first gear that you need to aware of if taking it off road. Also the lads with f800’s often fitted booster plugs to richen the mixure and smooth out the on of nature of the throttle on small openings.

Rented one for the day in Cape Town

It’s ok .
Stand out feature is the motor . Very smooth and grunty. Prefer it to the 1250.
Great quick shifter . Much smoother than the Gear Shift Assist Prod on the 1250.

Nice compliant suspension in both Road and Dynamic .

Good riding position . A bit comfier than the fire seat on 1250GSA, though I did pack my seat pad . Apologies if that irks TIJ650’s vanity before sanity clause , but my nerve damage dictates I need to try get comfy .

The screen on the bike is pointless . Whether fully up or down it makes fuck all difference, as do the deflectors.

Standing on the pegs produced the same airflow as sat down .

The bike weighs a ton and has a high c of g . Heaviest bike I’ve ever had to heave off side stand.
Weight disappears when riding though and it tips in lovely , probably due to being too heavy .

A good , not great bike . Would have one over the 1250GSA, but looking forward to getting Voge DS900X away. Same engine , better seat and screen , plus fully loaded for half the price of 900 GSA if you try spec it up to similar levels .

Day two and opinion has gone south .

Nice motor otherwise pretty flawed .
Screen is utter crap . Riding back at 130 kph today . Just stopped for coffee and 10 minutes after stopping I’ve still got pins and needles in my forearms and hands .
Didn’t feel the vibes whilst riding .
Worse trait as mentioned previously - weighs a fucking ton and stupidly heavy to get off side stand or move around , even when down to 1/3 fuel.

And suspension is too firm in Dynamic in anything other than smooth tarmac. Slightly better in Road.

Won’t be renting again .

And forgot to mention that I got numerous warnings that the GSAP wasn’t available even though it was , plus a great big amber placard to tell me that the number plate light was faulty 😜
Did 210 miles to reserve then took over 5 minutes to open the keyless fuel cap .

Hope the engine doesn’t explode like both the 850GSAs did within the first year .

Sticky gudgeon pin plus crap air filter seal that lets dust in around the rubber .

Engine 8.5/10
Rest of bike 4/10

Is that Steve Wong in the middle ? he's a nice bloke i've bought several bikes from there.

I put 25,000 miles through Africa and South America on a (very heavily farkled) 850, so have spent a lot of time on top of a BMW parallel twin.

900GS looks very promising to me - the bike the 850 could/should have been.

900GSA looks like a camel - racehorse designed by a committee - and not really much of a step forward from the 850 :blast

I struggle to see the advantage of the Adv version of either the 850 or the 900 over the standard bike. Weighs too much. Weight too high. Costs too much...

The GSA is designed more to tour whereas the 900GS is leaning towards off-road.
