Face Lift in 2008?

On the subject of a possible power increase - we should be careful what we wish for - with each power increase on paper all we really get is a higher revving motor with less down low - I wished they had made the 1200 with 90 rather than 100!............remember, you can't have something for nothing!:rob

Christ why would anyone want more power in a GS? It's already got too much and too revvy! Probably really should have bought RS or RT eh?

Cas :)

a gs to much power------------there is no such thing as to much power

the 1200 as I understand has been increased by making the stroke longer. boring it out. . . . but if they made the 1200 a 1350 - now we are talking :clap

With the way the German insurance market works I'd be surprised if they move over the 100ps mark, this means the bike goes into the superbike insurance bracket. This means a massive increase in premiums. I can't see BMW either alienating it's home market or making a lesser powered model just for Germany. Might be more torque but really the only time a 1200GS needs more torque is when towing the 1150 as it weighs like it was made of granite too :D

Well. there's one sat here who would love more power - yes please :thumb2

And if it revs a wee bit higher and looses a wee bit at the bottom end so be it, remember, it's all relative. The GS is still a grest big agricultural twin and is still a low reving, torquey brute of an engine.
It's a bit like when die hard 1150 owners witter on about the 1200 beeing too light and skittish/not feeling planted  FFS, it's still one of the lardiest bikes out there weighing a quarter of a ton and the steering geometry of a super tanker (and I wouldn't have it any other way!)

i'd gladly sacrifice 20mph off the top end for even more midrange & better mpg :thumb2

They did bore and stroke - but only by a small amount. In precentage terms they increased the power more that when the 1100 (rated at 80hp) went to the 1150 (rated at 85hp). If they stuck with the same state of tune our 1200s would make about 90hp. High power on dyno charts do not translate to the road. The current 1200s are now rated at 100 and this is with even tighter emissions so the extra power has come from a combination of compression, valve timing & lift, head flow, ignition timing etc - which all pushes the power up higher. But I ffigure that BMW had to give in and give us more............it's what we want and of course BMW need a reason for us to buy another one!

Where will the capacity/ power thing stop? Will we end up with a 1600 GS?

Who remembers when a 750 was huge? I remember my first 500 thinking that I had 'arrived'.................am I getting old?:blast

Jon P has it in a nutshell. SV650's are considered starter bikes these days, my son has a 150 trail bike but thinks about an R1 after passing his test (no silly rules in Malaysia regarding bike catagories) , yes Jon we are getting old, I went from a TS90 to a 250G5..then 400/4 then a CX500....etc etc 500's were big bikes, still are. I wiegh 13 stone, the GS1200 is fitting my wieght, its way to fast for me but the grunt is fun... more power... since when did this become a sport bike site, a GS is for grunt and fun lets not f*$k them up any further. And lets face it, if we even use them for mild trailing then the last thing we need is to make them any more fragile by loosing more wieght.
