Less than 2 months and 4.000 miles since I paid 225 quid to get a new fuel strip fitted it has failed yet again. Pos,
Hey ho, at least I should have some warranty on the new strip as it was fitted by the dealer, still a PITA though.why on earth can't they develop one that works, ffs.

Has anyone looked into the possibility of changing the fuel strip system for the later 2010 onwards system that uses a conventional float level system ?

Apparently it can't be done, or I would go for it.

More electronics, more complications, more potential points of failure, more money for the manufacturers.

No you can't change a strip for a float.
I was actually going to look at programing a controller to see if I could convert the signals but got rid of the bike.

Had mine replaced last year and its gone again, it did come with a 2 yr warranty. Anyone know if the 2 yr warranty starts again when a new one is fitted, or does it only last until the previous warrant expires?

It is a warranty on the strip you purchased. Any warranty replacement aren't covered.

Discussed range and compared what a mate gets from his tank compared to mine.

Both 2010 bikes.... He can squeeze almost 35 litres in the tank when filling up.

If I let my bike run till the computer show zero miles, I can only squeeze 28 litres in the tank.

He gets about 100 more miles than my personal best range so far.

Obviously they are calibrated different and I'm filling up long before I need to.

Can this system be re-calibrated?

You paid £225 at a main dealer so the strip is on warranty.

Let them worry about it.
I did mention the warranty on it in my op,
Booked in at Wollastons to be done again on the 23rd sep a week before I go down to the alps again.

And tell the buggers to treat the new fuel strip with kid gloves.
It can't be coincidence that replaced strips fail more often than factory fitted OEM strips.
That was in my thoughts funnily enough,

Hi guys, I'm not a GSA owner yet but will be soon - keep seeing these issues with fuel strips. What actually are they and what do they do?

Just the usual fuel gauge, but done using BMW magic instead of a traditional float. In reality they give you a random reading depending what mood they are in. If they are in a humorous mood they allow you to run out of fuel in the middle of nowhere, whilst indicating you still have a quarter tank of fuel.

Oh! thanks for the info. So its not really a big problem if they break, just keep an eye on the miles. My current bike ('97 Bandit 1200) shows full for 10 miles, then half full for about another 50, then just goes to empty for the remaining 50 miles. Just ride until the reserve then find a petrol station quick!

Cheers,
Dan

Not really a problem, apart from the annoying flashing amber low fuel light. And I never remember to zero my trip. So for me it is a problem.
