Hi ,i want to put a cigarette lighter socket on my gs 12 '04.
i would like it switched through the ignition does any one know where to get a supply from and do i need a relay or anything?
I don't want to use a bmw aux socket as everything i need to plug in to it has a ciggy lighter end on so i would have to change them also my tomtom 910 supply says its 12/24v input 5v 2amp output so itake it there is some sort of reducer built in to the socket
any help will be much apprecated

You can use a BMW socket, and there is an adaptor available from Maplins etc that you can use to adapt ciggie lighter to BMW socket. So fit a BMW type socket, and carry the adaptor.

Hi, Nobby,

BAG IS IN POST BY THE WAY...!

Cigar lighter........now I'll try some sensible advice,

decent accessory shop will have a cigar lighter system for a car which is reasonably easy to fit to some part of the fairing ( avoiding the weather)

I believe you could just run a fused cable from the battery direct to the cigar lighter socket, with earth going back to battery terminal, the cigar lighter will/should only operate when pushed fully in (as in a car) I have seen somewhere that a rubber bung/plug is supplied with some so that when not in use the lighter element can be removed and stored and the socket made more weather proof,

however I hae been known to talk a whle load of B~~~~ks at times so if someone else suggests something different, I'd assume they are correct!

PS the ashtray should be mounted down wind!
