"just as we were entering Kirklarelli the rear splines on the R1100GS failed."

Oh dear! Shouldn't happen EVER.

Comments from owners.

Theres been a lot of traffic regarding shaft and clutch spline failures on the ADV board and the consensus of opinion there seems to be that it happens to a small percentage of bikes and that it is poor greasing at the factory to blame for those.
Most people who suffered had done relatively small mileages (15K-35K) and when their bikes were stripped down lack of lubrication seemed to be the culprit.

Not confined to 1100`s but many 1150`s as well. Many occured during warranty.

Now H, you wouldn't be trolling would you? :D

Hope you are well and I can get back on 2 wheels next year to meet up in this area,

Iain

if it's the rear splines on the drive shaft then simon thomas is waiting in morroco for a new drive shaft from bmw after the rubber in the middle melted in the desert.
