My bike is in bits for a repaint and I'm considering whether to do major surgery to the front end, dumping the beak, instrument nacelle, standard lights and screen.

Does anyone have suggestions for a different fairing that would take a pair of bi-zenon projector lamps and a lightweight electronic solid state instrument unit. The only one I can find is the TT Desierto which looks a bit minimalist for long days in all weathers and costs about the same as the GDP of a small country.

The can is long gone as is the standard flappy mud catcher that bolts to the FD. The servo ABS unit has now been dragged off, I've put a couple of concrete blocks in there as a temporary measure to stop the bike floating away should there be a strong breeze.

I'm also thinking about opening up the wiring loom and pulling out unnecessary, redundant or un-used wiring.

Save the hassle and buy a R11RT or R1150RT

Why? If you want a fully faired bike buy an RT. Why try to make something into something other than what it is?:loopy

You're right, there doesn't seem to be a lot around. I thought that Wüdo might have done something but not that I could find. HPN drew a blank for fairings but along the way I found out that the price of their titanium conrods is pretty scary at €1100 each!

Did you have ABS problems? It seemed to be working fine at Ripley :D My 1150 never had servo/ABS and I do wonder if there's anything I could do with the space - maybe I could fit a small fridge/minibar:jager

I don't want a tourer Johnny, I want a different/better/lighter fairing & screen for the front of my dual purpose bike which, as you know, does get off road from time to time.

No problems with it apart from being a PITA when you are off road having to remember to disable it every time you start the engine.

As it's only maybe saved the day on one or two occasions in 70,000 miles, both at low speed, I decided I'd rather do without it and enjoy the weight reduction.

I may look at moving the battery forward and use the extras space for tools storage or a hidden box.

In that space I have the super loud stebel nautilus horn, my alarm (which might be getting binned) and the HID ballast. All neatly out of the way and there’s still a bit more room in there.

As for extra weather protection, I was thinking of making some over sized wally flap out of some thick rubber matting that I have got. I have the Hepco and Becker upper and lower bars, so it would be easy to attach a homemade frame. I was thinking of running it from the bottom of the screen, down the engine pots. Not sure how stupid it would look as it is still just a thought in my head.

I wanted to RT a GS a bit after having a couple of KLT's. I went for an Aeroflow screen and those wierd tank mounted Aeroguards bought cheap 2nd hand. It's a really good set up but you would probably break the screen easily off road and it sound like you want a sort of Dakar look which will be more through a TT type or similar.

With a bit of ebaying you may find something from one of those other Dakar types made by the "others". They seem to come up quick in bits....

i sold my Aeroflow, when i had a rush of shit to the brain and bought a 1200 :blast.
What a stupid thing to do,well 2 stupid things :tears

That Aeroflow looks positively dangerous for offroad - if you get to the bottom of a slope and the trail suddenly levels out or rises, you're liable to catch that in the teeth if you're not careful :eek

Wow that Vetter fairing must work well, fugly or what :D speaking as someone who has owned a Rickman penetrator  And the famous crashed ambulance Rickman polaris :rob the uglier they are the more effective they seem to be, what about half a wheelie bin ? :augie

+1, another item that won't be finding it's way onto my lovely 1150GS. It looks as though I need to leave the front as is or investigate items from other bikes.

Sadly, you only know by trying..... shame all the extras went as well....:( We've all been there...:augie

Puts a whole new interpretation on the term 'dustbin fairing'

WTF are these yanks on?:D Would at least leave you free of any troublesome limbs in a front ender:augie

You're very close... I have twatted my forehead on the screen when pushing the bike around on a couple of occasions. Too big and breakable for any off road action even if great onroad...

PS With the wheelie bin you will have a load of free spares if you "bin" it even if the colour range is limited:)
