FAMSA Tank Bag - real value for money

My FAMSA bag turned up yesterday from Winding Roads , excellent bit of kit . Loads of pockets and has a sturdy well built quality . Took about 3 mins to fit and the zip isn't as fiddly as some wold make out . At half the price of the BMW bag it's a bargain

Panzarphil & Keff, pleased to hear that your happy with your FAMSA tank bags. :thumb
I must admit that I find it a terrific piece of kit especially for the price.
Why anyone would pay almost double for a BMW tank bag beats me :nenau
I`ve even seen on here a second hand one for sale for £150!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
All we need now is some decent weather to put them to good use. Stay safe.
Dave

Fitted my Famsa today, ditto re ease of fitting and looks good, dissapointed with map holder size, even with gps it's nice to see on a map the area your in.

Thanks Dave, top tip, just ordered one up... will put it to use in a couple of weeks when I bring my bike back to Italy, good skills on the spotting there fella..:beerjug:

cheers

Hi Dave, sorry to hi-jack your thread here fella, but I see 'Twintree's' is from Stagsden! I grew up not far from there (place called Sherington) and my mates Grandad used to live in the the village.. guy by the name of Andy Kitchen, was big into his vintage bikes and just wondered if you(Twintrees) knew him? I believe Andy lives in his Grandads old Bungalow, place on the right as you enter the village...just before the pub..!

Hi Ya, yes if its the same guy, I know him just to put my hand up to, believe the old guy who used to live there was a Mr Beard, might be wrong! When I see him next I will have a chat. Good luck
Mick

Hi Mick, Thanks for that, I believe Andy used to have a real nice Laverda 500,last time I saw him (a fair time ago now..) he was talking of getting it sorted and running again, you would know if he had.. it was louder than Concorde.

cheers again, go and have a pint in Astwood... :beer:be quite envious of that, the beer in Italy is all fizzy and cold!

I'm back this coming weekend to pick the GS up for the trip back here to Scandiano, here's hoping for some decent weather, sorry again Dave for hijacking your thread...but its funny that you have to move a 1000 miles, and only then do you find that there is another GS'er 4/5 miles up the road!

thanks again

Ty

The routing for the front strap that I applied as far as I remember was: under the handlebar on the left side, then down behind the fork and up on the right side under the handlebar and attach to the bag; you will have plenty of "unused strap" so I used to make a node; hope it helps

I fitted my Famsa on Saturday. It had two straps which form padded loops - the question is what to loop them around

At the moment I've fastened them to the fairing subframe, but I guess they may fit around the frame tubes beneath the headstock too?

New "slim" BMW tank bag

The New BMW slim line one looked great.

The map pocket is wider and it has a nice indentation for a PDA/phone.

On the BMW accessories catalogue it says:

"R1200 GS (2008 onwards):
Approx-5 litres capacity
Cannot be used when handlebar cross-brace is fitted"

This doesn't make sense, smaller bag should fit even if the bar is fitted!!!

Has anyone tried one of those new "slim" BMW tank bags????

Yes,

See picture below of small tank bag fitted to a 09 GSA. It needed the bracket modifying but it is quite a nice size. Now use this and a TT DayTrip if I need to carry a proper map. :D

Just checked the Winding Roads website and........yer spoke too soon!
The price is now £107....too late.:blast
I am still using a Touratech Tank Bag I purchased in 1998 for my 1100.
It has seen service on that, a 1150, 1200 and now a GSA.
Apart from the perspex on the map case discolouring it is still as good as new, and inspite of being advised to the contrary it HAS fitted all the slightly different tank shapes.

Spring is on the way.
