Help!

I have a Compaq Presario desktop computer and decided to up grade the RAM stuff from 512 thingies to the maximum capacity of 2GBs so that it would handle programmes better - I am sure it was hampered as the hard disc fired up all the time.

So, following a recommendation from the daughter's boyfriend, I checked on 'Crucial' computer stuff's site and bought some RAM as a matching pair (as advised).

It came today and I popped it in without any difficulty (I have actually built a computer in the past) :eek.

As soon as it fired up (it recognised the 2GB :thumb2) the main cooling fan (back of the case) came on and has been on pretty constantly. It used to kick in and out but now it's constant and noisy!

Can I tweak the setting some how, or does it think that because it has all that (hot?) new memory it needs to be on all the time?

Advice gratefully received.

Sounds like the lead on the fan may have been misplaced or shorting meaning the temp sensor on it isn't working.
Open her up and take a look, if you can't see anything wrong a new fan should only cost £5 or so for a cheepie, or go for a quality fan for a bit more and hear the difference in noise a good fan can make.
