replicas/pastiches/whatever you call 'em....and the real thing.

Back in the day-1970ish- I had original Bonnies, a Commando, a T150 Trident (don't go there).

Seduced by the looks I bought a Triumph Scrambler a couple of years ago. I still think it looks gorgeous but ultimately it didn't do it for me. It makes the same power as the Commando did 40 years ago, but it weighs more! It lacks that visceral torque off the line blast of a good brit twin. The balance shafts and DOHC must weigh a great deal and could have been avoided. Rubber mounts and pushrods quite adequate for its power output. Could've had nice quiet hydraulic tappets as well.

I should add I've done over 600m in a day with no ill effects on me or the bike, and I have no doubt having seen one stripped down that the bottom end could stand tweaking to 100hp with no problems. The Scrambler is clearly the hooligan version, so why didn't they do it?
