My dealer told me yesterday that although on a new GS, BMW currently have a £1250 finance deposit and 7.9% Apr they have since 1st June added another £1K to the finance deposit so as I have ordered one but bike not in stock yet I'm getting another £1k

That’s cos the new one is due at any minute. What you are buying is a run out model. It’ll be worth nothing when the new one arrives.

I don't think that applies in the current market

Is cash still king?
No

The deals are usually dependent on taking a finance deal as they are deposit contributions. They hope to a) recover some of the discount in the interest paid and b) you get locked into the 3 year PCP cycle

Of course, there is nothing stopping you using your cash to pay off the finance early, but few people seem to do that

Exactly what I'm doing kind of, only financing £3k and it's straight HP not a pcp is the route for me too

I've bought my last 2 cars (both Skodas) on finance to get their incentive offers. First time (2012) I paid the finance off within the week which a lot did. VW finance got wise to this and lumped the cost for early settlement onto the dealers. so with the last one I asked the dealer how many payments I needed to make so they wouldn't pick up the tab then paid it off after I'd made enough payments. Might be worth a discussion with your dealer to see what the criak is with BMW finance.

I was aware of the £1250 contribution but not the extra £1k. In a recent cash negotiation the amount of discount I could get was about £600. Prices of the new 1300 will be more and thus dealers are thinking the 1250 is cheap :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Dealers were only told about the extra £1k on Friday, will cause some upset for folk who have just took delivery.

Obviously sales are slow in this current economic climate, so they're chucking the baby out, as well as the bath water
Times are hard, getting harder too

Good to know - thanks Oharac. I’m currently looking at used v new.

Extra £1000 only if you have owned a BMW or mini in the last 3 months.

I took advantage of the extra £1k part-ex allowance offered by BMW (January ish) when I bought my 1250RS. It was a different offer to this one and I suspect it was offered in order to keep the factory ticking over.

Seem to remember the PX bike had to be owned for a minimum of 3 months though.
I paid cash money and there was no mention of PCP or HP etc when doing the deal. Seemed like a genuine offer as the online prices on the online configurator didn’t alter.

Strange country that the UK is becoming. Never bought a car or bike without saving and paying cash for it. It used to be a dirty word to buy on HP, or PCP or whatever nice word you would like to use.
Very unlike Germany or France where people tend to pay for what they want.

It is not "becoming"...you're decades out of date Bob....HP, finance call it what you will, has been big business for many many years in the UK. Must have shiny new stuff.......

The big companies want us to buy stuff on ‘tick’ as it tends to trap folk into a repetitive buying pattern. PCP andHP are there to make the importer/ dealer money, guess who pays for it…….yes , the mug signing up for it.

There’s a lot of misinformation on this thread.

£1,250 is deposit contribution been around a while, so use it as described, top up part ex, whatever.

Extra grand off was always there.

No need to take finance. Cash equals same deal.

Simply many just don't ask.

The above is based on a new GS purchased in May, before I’m corrected.

Yes, it’s motivated by the new model, but demand remains and there’s certainly less than 50 (excluding showroom stock) pre-built 1250 GS available to ‘order’ from BMW.
