Wow!!! :D Me and my Brother just had a fantastic Sunday camping and off road in South Wales after meeting one of the nicest couple you could ever wish to meet who run a biker / adventure campsite! :bow

Having owned road bikes for around 13 years both me and my Brother have decide to experience bikes sat more upright whilst taking in the scenery. This includes future plans to travel further afield to countries that lack our daily grind and mundane culture. All well and good but we knew that meant riding off road, slipping and sliding around and regularly picking up our bikes... NONE of which (Im pleased to say) we were too familiar with on our Honda Blackbirds and lists of previous crotch rockets! :augie

So armed with a BMW F650 GS each tough map and tent we set off towards Brecon late last Saturday evening (in the dark) with camping and some "self learning" in mind... However the first issue was a campsite!? Mikes GPS had suffered the effects of the "persistent Welsh precipitation" (yes it was pissing down!) half way there and the net result was neither of us had a clue where we were going? :blast (nothing new there) We clocked a dot on a 1:50 scale map indicating there was a campsite on the Brecon road after Crag y Nos Castle. :comfort

With that in mind we aimlessly road until we found a "camping with open fires £5.00" sign on the roadside. :thumb

After following the first two signs we were lost only to ride back to where we started to take another look at the sign; this time "taking note of the place name :blast "; 'Absolute Adventure' (quietly thinking, surely this will be for school kids wanting a broken ankle and a sick note) we approached the building and carefully rang the bell outside the house. Well with hind sight maybe I should have rang the bell a little more gently as I nearly evacuated the local village! :hide

Before we knew it we were greeted by two apparently lovely people with warm smiles and a welcoming offer of firewood. :bounce1 Next, surprisingly we heard "the guy" tell us to ride down to our camping pitch and that they too were bikers? We looked at each other ramming our lids up our arms and jumping on the bike with glee thinking we had landed on our feet! (We had no idea just how lucky we were and soon to find out)

Whilst we were busy putting the tent up we heard this voice shout out “tea or coffee guy’s” and shortly after “here is your firewood, kindling and paper”. (Amazing although it was a shame to be using an MCN to start a fire….freeze or read MCN? :tears ).

Later on we all got chatting :blagblah and it turned out that both Steve and Jen had ridden in all or parts of the Dawn Till Dusk endure ride to name just one of the many amazing stories they shared with us! :friday We went on to explain that we were both greener than green things from green land and promptly displayed our tough map to them upside down… (nice start, very impressive, clearly we know what we are doing…. NOT) :augie

It would appear that besides Steve and Jen realising our novice approach to off road they also (and probably more importantly) saw through our lack of navigational skills like a pane of glass….. With that they looked at each other and offered to ride out with us to show us some local lanes…. (by this time we were starting to wonder if we really had landed on our feet or if it was a big build up to some kind of ‘candy camera’ were someone runs out of the cupboard shouting “GOTCHA”!!!.) It was all just too good to be true! :eek:
Sure enough true to both their words the next day we all hit the green lanes in and around Tre-Castle (whilst I hit the bottom of a river bed with both me and the bike on our sides :eek ) and had an absolutely FANTASTIC day!!! :thumb2 We covered fast winding mountain roads, hill sides, valleys, dirt tracks, forestry, water traps and rocky wet tracks. :D

(Word of warning; MX helmet and goggles is not a cool as you may think!!!)

I suggested to Steve and Jen that they used their lodge for weekend biker trips offering points of interest or even guided rides out. They have enough room in their lodge for 42 people which would make for a great weekend AND the neighbours are not too close which means a ‘knee’s up’ would be in order to!
They both loved the idea so I’m thinking of getting together a group for a good sized off-road riding weekend with BBQ, beer, camping and lodge on site…

It would be interesting to hear how many of you would be up for this!?
Just so you know how far you would have to travel they are located at;

Absolute Adventure
Rhongyr Isaf Centre
Pen-Y-Cae
Upper Swansea Valley
