Just an initial interest post to see if there is anyone going to the Faro rally in July?? Im thinking of going via France and travelling on my own so far.

Peter

I`m going, (currently travelling alone) but I`ve been going Faro for the last 15+ years, (I was the winner of the holiday to Daytona bike week in 2006) There`s a mixed bag of regular of all nations whom I meet up with, and are usually welcoming to those whom its their 1st Faro
However this year I`m not camping, & for the 1st time I have accommodation in the nearby village in the back corner of the site, (via airB&B) 5-10 minutes walk from the back gate.
I`m leaving home 27th June catching the Poole ferry on the 28th as part of my Tour-of-Spain-and-Portugal. I will be in Zaragoza 30th June - 1st July, then 5th - 6th July I`ll be in Ajacar, then 7th - 8th I`ll be in Granada to visit the Alhambra, then I have 5-6 days free to work my way towards Faro
The direct route to faro is well trodden from either the ferries or via France which usually hugs the Spanish side of the border, via Salamanca & by passing Seville. As Portugal has a reputation for slightly higher fuel prices. Faro tends to be a small part of most peoples trip (see above thread link) so it depends on what direction you`d like to take. however most of the regulars tend to turn up on site no later than the weds prior to the rally to ensure they secure their regular pitches
The following weekend I`ll be at the Chaves Rally and again I`m wussing out on camping and have a Pension booked for around €22 per night B&B. I can heartily recommend the chaves Rally if you have time, for around €10-€15 there`s plenty of food and drink included.
If I can help with info or maybe our paths cross somewhere let me know

Hi Peirre, think I spoke to you re Faro which you kindly gave lots of good info for me, much appreciated indeed. It would be good if we could cross our paths. Im back from Spain on the 2nd July, going touring the Pyrenees this Sunday. Plan to ride to Faro taking my time tho France maybe, will see to arrive aFaro Tues/Wed

Maybe catch up with you if it all works out on your trip from Granada? Will PM you my Mobby if ok with you?

Regards
Peter

will see to arrive aFaro Tues/Wed
Tuesday evening, or Wednesday noon is when most tend to arrive.
Anyone arriving earlier will find the "facilities" on site aren`t fully up and running, & head to the campsites either at Olhao or Quartiera, the "inscriptcions" (ticket sales) usually start weds evening or Thursday morning.
My mates usually head to the area behind the stage, the access to that area is the last left turn off the site road, past the mid area crossing, & before the back gate.
If it helps the area is marked on the online site map as the last Tap/shower symbols in area E7/E9 There are good facilities there, with toilets, showers, canteen & bars. within 75m
I`m due on site weds afternoon, where I`ll meet up with the masses down at a local bar called "Tatiana`s" for food and beer which you find by heading from the main gate, continuing along the road & out the back gate, then take the 2nd right down the hill 500m and the bar is on the LHS before the junction with the main road, the bar is an easy 10+ minutes walk from site. So if you head down there and see a rowdy crowd of brits, Irish, German and Portuguese getting drunk & doing silly Father Jack vocal impressions "drink" Feck" etc, that`ll be us
Maybe catch up with you if it all works out on your trip from Granada?
I`ll be staying at the Hotel Alixares in Granada 7th-9th July, as I have a ticket for the Alhambra tour for the 8th
Will PM you my Mobby if ok with you
Alas I`m not a subscriber & don`t have PM privileges, however you could mail me peirreobollox hat Microsoft`s very very warm mail dot com

I'm not a camping guy:thumb2

My sister lives there.

Do u like "vinho verde"?

Can't make Faro this year, but I'm going over to Chaves for the weekend. I'm wuss ing out on the tent too as well this year and staying at the Aquae Flaviae in the town. What bars you at doing your father ted impression there and I'll look out for you?

We shouldn`t be too hard to find on site ......just listen for the English voices

Anyone going Faro, who is familiar with the site area and the small village behind the rally site, you`ll find me and the Ted impersonator`s weds night at a bar down there.
Street view "Rua Aquilino Ribeiro 124 Faro" and its the "snack bar" opposite the rent a car place with the yellow awning

I have a feeling I know where it is, (do you have to get the key to use the bog?) it's been about 4/5 years since I was there last. Will be there thurs aft. Maybe see ya for a beer! I'll be the one with the red carnation.
