Before I do my usual trick of wading in with a hammer and breaking something........ ( I am a DIY expert!) can any one point me in the direction of the right technique for removing the original footpegs.

Looking to install the Fast way pegs as I want a wider / Lower platform

Done a search but all I can find are compliments on the pegs and comments on how easy they are to fit..... so I am obviously a muppet!

cheers

How do I remove original pegs

Have no fear it's really simple - must be, I managed to fit TT pegs in about 15 minutes

You'll need a 'normal' screwdriver with quite a small head to remove the lock washer that's underneath the peg on the end of what I'll call the pivot bolt (it's not a bolt as it's not threaded, but it'll do for now)

Make sure the washer doesn't spring off and get lost on the garage floor or driveway. I needed to re-use with the TT pegs

Once you've removed that the pivot bolt just pushes upwards and the footpegs then in your hand

I needed to reuse the OE spring for the TT pegs - so if you need to do the same for your new pegs just take a look at the spring fitment before you start and when dismantling take it slowly. I needed to trim the spring as well afetr fitting TT's - that was easy as well. Just snipped off the surplus piece and bent a new curve on the end of the spring

Just means that if I refit the OE pegs I'll have to acquire new springs

Fitting new pegs is just reverse of removal

If you're still nervous do one side at a time - that way if you get into trouble you can still look at the original

Good luck and I hope you like the Footways - I read a thread some while ago where someone went back to OE's because the flatness of the footways prevented his foot from pivoting on the peg. I have no problem with the TT's

Removing the original footpegs is indeed easier than an easy thing!

Using pliers/screwdriver remove spring clip from underside of pivot pin.

Lift pin out and it all falls apart.

SNAP!

I've got fastways and you don't need to use the original springs.

They're great pegs BTW.

The only hard bit I found was driving the tapered collars into the footrest. A vice is probably best if you have one. I used the supplied arbor and it was the wrong diameter. I had to ease out some slight burrs I created in the bore.

Any probs just ask.

Having spent the rest of the weekend on the bike, I can heartedly endorse this mod - no real increase in vibrations and a huge platform to stand on.

I've installed them in the lower position and the extra half an inch of legroom makes a real difference in the comfort stake.

PS - Nice to meet a fellow UKGSer at the Hein Gericke store in Stockwell - apologies can't remember your user name!!:helmet
