I'd love to fit fat bars to replace the standard steel handle bars. I have a set or risers that I don't use. Any one know if there are a set of risers or adapters that would alow me to fit fat bars to the standard yoke? Or has anyone tried to machine the standard risers to fit the larger diameter handle bars?

I fitted risers to an R100GS a couple of days ago. There is only 35mm between the bolt centers, so not enough space to fit the fatter bars.

I would think the only way you could do it is to fit risers that move the bars forward or backward enough to make the necessary space for the bars to fit without the bolts getting in the way.

Some time in the workshop with a lump of Alli and a hack saw would do it :thumb2

Many thanks, the risers look ok. I'd have to fit quite low bars to avoid turning it into a chopper riding position. I've never known a bike so difficult to change the bars. I don't like 'em to high but too low and the hand guards (Acerbis)smack into the screen/clocks. I may opt to go with Renthal 7/8th bars as they look quite trick are Alu to damp the vibes and I will be able to find a bend that suits. Not much in the way of M/X shops in my area for me to try different types of bar in the car park before buying.

Have you seen these:

and these:

I read somewhere that this Magura X line bar is of similar proportions:

Lobbed into the local Polo shop in Bonn, found lots of options including adjustable risers and magura specific bits. Just got to find the time to measure up and get the cash out. Thanks for all the replies.:thumb

They do a catalogue and all the bits are in there. The online shop doesn't show the full range of stuff. They also do the magura x line bars with the handle bar adapter risers to suit. The magura bars come in 105 and 120mm hights. As the risers are 25 mm I will probably go for the 105 set and that will make them only slightly higher that std but with a better bar shape. If you want to fit 7/8 bars they have risers in various hights and angles as well as the adjustable type.

I has no trouble - every dirt bike shop I went into had the risers to suit even if the sales person does not know it.

The correct item has slots on the bottom half so it fits any screw centers, and gets screwed to the existing lower mount with recessed socket head screws.

The top half is fixed with two different screws which screw down into the new bottom half of the riser.

To avoid the screws in the bottom half the risers have to be a bit wider than you would otherwise need - that is how you recognize them !

Sylvester, I just picked up a new set of Magura X Line fat bars on ebay for £39.95 which seemed to me like a good price;)

There was only the one set advertised but I'm sure I have seen him put some up before. Ebay shop name is breakingpoint1.
The guy also has a shop at http://www.breakingpoint.co.uk

Thanks RB, I'm in the USA for the week but I'll contact the shop when I get back. I've looked for mx shops over here to see what the prices are like but have not had any luck so far. Looks like I'm just gonna have to put them on my xmas list for Santa to buy.

Found a nice set of Protaper Fat bars prices at $50 with Renthal grips in a local MX shop. Can't wait to get home to fit them.
